The Lightsaber

The Jedi's weapon, designed for elegance and effectiveness. Many who did not know it simply refered to it as
laser sword". Though not only was this beautiful weapon used by the Jedi, but also the Sith. Even with that, and being used by the Dark Jedi, the lightsaber was still a universal sign of someone who was upholding peace in the galaxy.

"This was the formal weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. More skill than simple sight was required for its use. An elegant weapon. It was a symbol as well. Anyone can use a blaster or a fusioncutter—but to use a lightsaber well was a mark of someone a cut above the ordinary."

The lightsaber contains many parts... The core of it being the Diatium Power Cell, the Primary Crystal, and the Focusing Crystals. The Diatium Power Cell's purpose is to create the original beam, which is then inputed into the Primary crystal which (along with the Energy Gate) funnels the beam into the Focusing Crystals - which then output it through the Energy Channel, through to the Arc Tip and out past the Emitter Shroud.

There are also Rituals in which involve the lightsaber, such as the:

Knighting Ceremony, in which a Padawan's braid ritualistically severed by the presiding Jedi Master. This even was often viewed by many other Jedi Knights and Masters, who would have thier lightsabers ignited in honor of the ritual.

Concordance of Fealty, in which a padawan would return the lightsaber given to them by their master, back to said master. Thus fullfilling the circle - and the ritual.
