Unigine currently has some Indie-prices for their engine:
Unigine.com

What do you think about something like that?

I as a Linux user would love to use that engine but as being a student its price is still to high.
And why should I even bother when getting Windows 4free with MSDNAA and also getting UDK and CryEngine 4free?

Can someone recommend a good free (don't need to be open-source) (3D) game engine for Linux?

MSDNAA isn't free. Ask your university to buy some Unigine engine licenses.
Doom 3 engine will be released soon, other active developed engines are Crystal Space, Blender game engine and Ogre3D, they are also used in some smaller commercial games.

You are right. MSDNAA isn't free itself. The university has some agreement with Microsoft. But it is free for me. That is the point.

There is no university or student version of the Unigine engine available. So which one should be bought? Indie or Professional? Both seem kind of odd for a university. Also why should they buy it when CryEngine and UnrealEngine and Unity3D are freely available with there tools and SDK? ;-)

ID Tech 4 - I hope they get it out really soon. Currently Ftp.idsoftware.com is down. I can't get anything from there.

Crystal Space seems currently really quite. I know that they try to get a version 1.9 and 2.0 out. But on their mailing-list and forum and website news are coming very slowly.

Ogre3D is just a graphics engine. Much more is needed for a game. Maybe GameKit would be a good point to start with.

I already did something with BGE. I think I stick with it for now. It has all needed tools build right in.

Some areas are very dark, in fact, a lot of the areas during the playthrough are too dark. It seems unnatural that there wouldn't be any light source at all in these areas. Even if you're shooting for realism, the graphical work is useless if people have a hard time distinguishing what's going on around them. There are some graphical glitches as well that I've noticed. Commonly blinking textures.

It also seems to be that using the iron-sight is the only way to fire a weapon, at least that's what I got from the video. You may want to reconsider this, leaving the sight's as an option and including a reticule for those of us who don't prefer to use iron-sight's. You are after all trying to make a game, and as such you are making it for gamers, and gamers have different preferences. A developer must bend to the will of the gamer, to some degree at least, if they hope to have a product people want. You are ultimately making it to provide them with an experience after all.

Thank you for this very honest criticism, I am currently fixing the game and expect that I will release a new version, have received lots of email about the bugs so definitely I will fix it. At first I thought this game will not be that successful cause this is my first game release in IndieDB and ModDB and this is the very first time I created a game, but when I saw that there is a progress and some people love the story and game play, I feel that I need to make it better and release a new version so that everyone will enjoy. I am really happy because people supported the game even though it is not good graphically, I admit it and I promise to release a newer version and a better graphics. The dark part is only at the game play, the next levels are very well lighted. The game play was dark cause that is the part where there is a war in the Urban and if there is war expect darkness and besides my idea about it is evening setting. Anyway, I guess it's not effective and I really appreciate your feedback about this. Again thank you and have a great day.

Good news for the Indie Devs looking for some more functional game engines. If you're working non-profit then this you can use for free: Blendernation.com
