To give the community an insight into the work that goes into development of Indie projects, I (Squiggers) decided to contact several indie developers for a series of podcasts covering several aspects of Indie Development.

Greetings and salutations to newsletter readers old and new!

Mechanist Games has seen a lot of progress since our last newsletter update and we’re excited to get down to the specifics. But first, we want to extend a warm welcome to all those of you who have recently started following the development process. We’ll be posting older issues of the newsletter on our website so if you are interested in what’s been discussed in the past please check out the archive.

Now, let’s start with the question we’ve been hearing the most from the City of Steam community: “When does the Alpha test start?” I am pleased to announce that the Alpha version of City of Steam will open in July. This means there are only a few months to go before players will have the opportunity to check out all the work done behind the scenes since the Sneak Peek. As was done with the Sneak Peek, we will be sending out Keys to all of those signed up to the newsletter so keep it in mind and read future issues to learn about updates as the Alpha Launch date approaches.

The Sneak Peek last month was also a huge success and we can’t thank all of those who had a chance to share their opinions on the early version enough. We spent a long time working through all the feedback, considering the elements that needed to be changed and making a lot of tweaks and fixes to resolve issues and improve the game. More of those alterations will be released in the weeks to come.

On to other news, we had a great reception at GDC last month. It was great to tour around beautiful San Francisco and meet industry professionals whom have provided us with a lot of encouragement, feedback, and suggestions. For more information visit our recap here. Most of us are experiencing American food withdrawal…

Recently, Dave posted a poll on our forum regarding the House System and we’d really appreciate if we could get more votes to see which direction the system should head in.
Another cool Dev Journal to check out is our post on the new Skill Tree concept that has actually received quite a bit of positive attention around the net.

As always, we aim to make the development of City of Steam as integrated as possible with those of you from the community that want their voices heard and opinions taken into account, in that regard please head to our website and forums to contribute.

All the best.
