The kid is probably an only child, probably has low self esteem (still living at home when he should be pretty much done college or at least final year?) and i would hope he would have a mental issue which causes the mother to act this way. If there is no mental issue and the mom still acts this way then thats pretty bad.
I think the kid should take a drive longer than an hour away from home and never return...
