Those things are actually very sealed. A stove turned off is probably more dangerous.
ya, as someone who works with metals, those sparks are only hot for about 2 seconds and not nearly hot enough to melt through one of those tanks. the worst that would happen is metal buildup on the exposed side, but it just brushes off.
