Exactly! Those that claim Russia invaded are misinformed as Russia got permission to move their troops into the streets in order to defend the population there from any "ethnic cleansing" or other threats from the rebellion.
(At least that's based on my understanding of the event which might not be correct so if I'm misinformed link me to a source)
The Crimean peopled asked them to come. The Ukrainian Government did not.
Invasion of Ukraine? Technically Yes.
Do the people in the lands they are invading want them there? Yes.
Based on the information we have I'm leaning towards supporting Russia in this as long as they don't start shooting and allow the people in the regions they are in to have free elections on whether they stay as Ukrainians or switch to Russians.
They are there simply to protect a Russian ethnic majority and Naval assets in the Crimea, and the pro-Russian populace in Ukraine. This is in no way an invasion, but a peacekeeping mission; a worthy exercise in the face of EU-US' aggressive destabilising of an already unstable government. Russia is performing the role of the UN (again), a role that the UN itself can never fulfil.
The mass exodus of of many Ukrainian citizens over the Russian border speaks for itself.
Crimea is a Autonomous Republic within Ukraine. Technically speaking, it is part of Ukraine but it is not a nation-state. It only has enough power to handle internal affairs but they cannot be apart of nor influence foreign affairs (like this one). This is because Crimea is still part of Ukraine proper. Perhaps it's better to read up the definition of Autonomous republic and Crimea's policies to get a better understanding of the conundrum we're about to be dragged into and that they're in.
Error 404: Invasion not found.
