To be fair, IIRC Japan is forbidden to take its army outside Japanese territory since WW2 ended, and since the biggest threats to Japan's national safety are North Korea and its own population's low birth rate... the JSDF has very little actual military work to do.
pretty much the same applies to germany aswell.
