Phew its good i'm not from the United States, otherwise i would own them billions, that's how much i downloaded from megaupload, and i won't even start with torrents rofl xD
also, if america does **** like this. Everyone will stop buy their products and their money. So I will say, in a few seconds this happens america will go bankrupt. Then i mean a poor country. This happens when idiotic people is under control.
Let me tell you something about the US government... they are the government of the US, not the entire ******* world. Even then, if you live in the US and downloaded some **** from Megaupload, the FBI aren't gonna come knocking at your door... If you speak out against them however, (and i'm talking about Assange-type stuff here) then they'll use your history of piracy as an excuse to arrest you...
basically what i'm saying is that you won't be arrested because you pirated stuff... but if you speak out against them, they'll arrest you for what you spoke against them for, but under the pretext of internet piracy.
As for the guy from Britain he was the domain master of TVshack which is a website which links users to pirated material... Why in the **** it's a crime to watch TV shows online for free where it isn't illegal to watch them on the TV for free is just beyond me... My guess is the TV providers were ****** that people weren't paying them money for watching their shows and watched them on the internet so they bought some politicians to extradite him...
As for Jammie Thomas this picture is quiet incorrect. First of all, she did not get arrested for downloading 24 songs... she actually uploaded the songs. and a MAJOR, MAJOR fact that this leaves out if the fact that she had actually UPLOADED 1,700 songs... she was only brought to court and charged for 24 of them... That being said of course the amount of money is ridiculous, and how much you wanna bet the record companies DIDNT lose money over this? i bet a lot... Anyways it's obvious the record companies targeted her because of how many songs he uploaded.
also, please read what i have to say before commenting. Im keeping things balanced here, this picture is propaganda - i happen to agree with it however.
Basically this image wants to incite people because of the two events listed in it - perfectly fine - but it goes about it in a bad way (ie lying and not telling all the facts). They did this to make it seem like it can happen to ANYONE so they get more support - understandable.
However if you tell people the facts, and show the corruption of the US government (which is what i did), instead of dumbing it down to appeal to the 'mainstream' internet audience, then what you have is a powerful thing... a socially and politically aware ARMY of people.
Basically i just want people to know that it's not downloading songs that makes you a target, it's going against America and it's corporate leaders... THAT'S what you need to be worrying about and solving, and a bi-product of solving this you also solve the issues listed here. Whereas if you just solve the issues here, you still have the rotten core which will continue to corrupt everything afterwards...
Record companies barely lose money when you consider how many people actually pirate stuff (not many relative to the large population of people that buy music and stuff legit). So no most of the time the companies are having to put more money into bribing politicians and paying their lobbyists than the money they save by busting a pirate or person who uploads pirated stuff. (This applies to music, movie and other media industries as well, videogames are a special case as EA is really the only major company to blame for most of the games that are pirated these days, because they just suck, and nobody really wants to give them money, at least the people that acknowledge the fact that they are just outright greedy idiots)
This SOPA fiasco will blow over soon enough, they had to put it aside due to the internet backlash they got when everyone found out they were actually planning on passing it. We have nothing to worry about.
O.O
