Almost all F2P games end up like this:( I just really hope that Star Citizen won't become P2W since if it will I'll need to find a private server to play on.
right until you want to trade your weapon for another weapon you like, or have to make a choice between class builds because you ran out of backpack...
and of course there's the whole "you have to buy a key to use your crates" thing, when you wait days for that next drop and get a crate nobody wants it's kind of a kick in the guts.
F2P works great, as long as it's not competitive. Even the purely "cosmetic" upgrade games will require you to pay eventually if you want to keep up with the other players
What the hell are you on about? Can you please elaborate how WoT is pay to win currently? While they started out with some P2W elements, they got better.
Instead of having to play lets say 5 matches to get 1000 exp, you get premium and play 1-2 matches. On bigger numbers it gets even better, so for example instead of playing several days to unlock a new tank with premium you can do it in less then a day.
Money gain is also ridiculous. It's almost impossible to play tier IX-X with a free account because it doesn't matter if you win or lose the match you are still going to be hemorrhaging money, so you are forced to play tier V-VI "Moneymakers" instead of enjoying those tier X that you worked so hard to get. But with premium that doesn't matter, 99.9999...% you will earn more money then you spend on ammo/repairs.
Premium account + premium tank like Lowe = like having 2 premium accounts running at the same time lol = HUGE Proffit
Also Gold Ammo is OP, nuff said.
And before you say that i know nothing about WoT, tell that to my account full with Tier X tanks that i worked my *** off to get WITHOUT premium.
i didn't pay for Planetside 2 until i was level 50, even then i killed all members and non members, i like how you can get everything in the game without having to pay, the only thing that you HAVE to pay for is cosmetics!
And Sanguinius is right about WoT, same applies with alot of other games, yes, they are free, but their premium boosts alot compared to non-prem, which always puts them on an advantage in some way.
The only game i can remember out of my head right now who doesn't do this "for now" is Path of Exile, but looking how pretty much every dev goes back against their word, it's just a matter of time.
well in that case, battlefield 3 is a pay to win game, since you can buy all the upgrades without having to actually play. But just because you have a weapon that you payed for, doesn't make you a better player. I've destroyed several pay to winners who were rank 10 without as much as a sigh. money doesn't immediately make you better, and just because you've unlocked it, doesn't mean you know how to use it, if you know where i'm coming from?
Wait until good players start paying to unlock upgrades though - once that starts, new players will have to buy at least a couple of upgrades in order to get a start without weeks of grinding to start ranking...
and then the next generation of newbies need more upgrades to get a fair go at starting...
and it spirals, and the game becomes P2W.
I've seen the same thing happen in social media chess games - the upgrades let you set the game rules (e.g. variant games like Transfer, Pheasant etc.), so if you want to host games (which gives you more XP/rank if you challenge someone ranked above you) then you need to have a premium account to host a variant game in order to keep things interesting, or else the high rankers wont play you because they have so many game requests.
well isn't that fair game? they've played a lot of the game, they know what's good, what's bad. new players can't pick up a game and expect to destroy everything immediately. It seems to me like what you're trying to say is that it's unfair on the new people who have just started and haven't unlocked everything, while people who have played the game more and unlocked higher tier weaponry, armor etc are just bad winners?
let the butthurt begin!
Yep. So very true.

ahem...team fortress 2...best f2p in my opinion
world of tanks its pretty balanced
the list goes on
Notice how I said "almost all" there are a few exceptions but the majority of f2p are p2w in disguise.
Well black light is p2w but its still the skill thats talking in game
TF2 is great F2P...
right until you want to trade your weapon for another weapon you like, or have to make a choice between class builds because you ran out of backpack...

Well, someone can always hack the system and crash everything...
ALL HAIL THE LULZ!!!
As far as I have experienced, World of Tanks isn't like this. Yet... O_O
if you're above tier 4 it is.
below that it is hard to tell wallet warriors from actual players.
What the hell are you on about? Can you please elaborate how WoT is pay to win currently? While they started out with some P2W elements, they got better.
Premium Account = You pay and you Win, PERIOD!

Thank you and have a wonderful day...
Sadly it is, wallet warriors ruin everything...
I've even seen some paid games do this too. Mostly smart phone games, but still.
i didn't pay for Planetside 2 until i was level 50, even then i killed all members and non members, i like how you can get everything in the game without having to pay, the only thing that you HAVE to pay for is cosmetics!
You can pay to unlock stuff earlier.
And Sanguinius is right about WoT, same applies with alot of other games, yes, they are free, but their premium boosts alot compared to non-prem, which always puts them on an advantage in some way.
