I feel that a picture from the Pacific theater from WWII would be more appropriate with "ocean breeze" and "salty air" lines. While Vietnam does have a coast line most of the fighting took place deeper into the interior of the country. The Vietnamese were usually smart enough to stay far enough inland that they were out of range of US naval bombardment. While the Pacific theater was like 95% tropical island hopping...
Vietcongs, the Vietnamese were (at least officially) allied with the US. Though I understand that they are all called Vietnamese now, I still believe Vietcong to be more exact (because of the date of the picture and the war it was taken on). Sorry, this is not to burn your comment or anything, its just a fact I though I would share.
What? O_o I think you mean the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam). The US fought two factions in the Vietnam War. The NVA/VPA(People's Army of Vietnam)and the Viet Cong.
The NVA was the official uniformed military of the Communist North Vietnam while the Viet Cong were pro-communist guerrillas allied with and trained by the NVA. They usually operated within South Vietnam.
The South Vietnamese (ARVN) were allied with the US but they were eventually defeated and absorbed into what is now modern Vietnam once US forces left.
At least we burned down their entire ecosystem and poisoned their children before we left. No one defies 'Murica without a taste of freedom and democracy!
All up from a certain point of view.
At least the round trip is all paid for!
... though return ticket is not guaranteed.
