Created for WMClan members originally, XTraction is a super versatile texture extractor for Halo 3 and ODST. This tool will extract a texture from a .MAP file as a .TIff image, enabling editing and replacement of halo 3 era textures.
BEFORE YOU CAN FULLY EXPLOIT XTRACTION'S CAPABILITIES, YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD THE "shared.MAP", "mainmenu.MAP", and "campaign.MAP" Files from winSERV.com and put them into the same folder as the XTRACTION.exe file.
ALL MAP FILES YOU DOWNLOAD SHOULD BE PLACED IN THIS FOLDER.
>To extract a texture, load the .MAP file you want (example: Riverworld.MAP).
Then when it loads, find the "BITM" directory, and scroll down until you get to the first file you see that >has the prefix "Shared/". this is the first .BMP file in the sequence of alphabetically arranged textures in halo 3 and ODST.
>Click this bitmap, then look on the right side of the file directory at the preview of the Bitmap. click this preview image to toggle the alpha channel view on and off.
>Now you have your Bitmap, look above the preview image at the chart with the name of the bitmap and all of it's properties. Right-Click this chart and you will be asked if you want to "Extract texture" or "extract .RaW". click "extract texture" and wait a moment. a box will appear asking for the destination folder. choose the destination folder, click OK and wait.
