In the reality, the machine gun barrels must be changed after every thousand shot, because it became very inaccurate and it's jams.
Not true... If you changed it every hundred shots, you'd be lugging around 50 lbs in barrels alone. You change it when it starts to warp, which could be anywhere between 8000 rounds to 20,000 rounds... Depending on conditions, weapon, and quality of the barrels of course.
