Fallout is a
computer role-playing game produced by Tim Cain, developed and published by Interplay in 1997. The game has a post-apocalyptic setting in the mid-22nd century, featuring an alternate history which deviates some time after World War II, where technology, politics and culture followed a different course. The game is sometimes considered to be an unofficial sequel to Wasteland, but it could not use that title as Electronic Arts held the rights to it; and, except for minor references, the games are set in separate universes. It was also intended to use Steve Jackson Games' GURPS system, but that deal fell through due to the excessive amounts of violence and gore included in the game, forcing Black Isle to change the already implemented GURPS system to the internally developed SPECIAL system. Critically acclaimed, the game inspired a number of sequels and spin-off games, known collectively as the Fallout series.

Have you played Wasteland 2?
Will you play F3 Van Buren?

I don't really hate Bethesda. If it wasn't for them to create Fallout 3, I wouldn't have heard about the Fallout franchise and wouldn't have played Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Thanks to Bethesda, the franchise was brought back from the graves. Nowadays, lovers of Fallout know about Fallout 1 and Fallout 2- some of them have played it after Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas (like me). And Bethesda are the ones who helped Id Software not to fall in the mud (the game Rage). Still, Black Isle Studios should have joined with Bethesda instead of selling Fallout to them. This way Van Burden (what Fallout 3 should have been) would have been finished just the way it was planned to be. So Bethesda are the people because of who the Fallout franchise is now popular and Id Software is still alive- Bethesda doesn't deserve any hatred- it deserves respect.

They don't deserve any hate even despite that. The whiny Fallout purists couldn't stand to see their game series get changes, so they ignored how the two new ones are great games and said "WELL THEY'RE DIFFERENT SO **** THAT ****!" And this is coming from someone who has played Fallout 1 and 2 as well. Fallout 1 was boring for me, Fallout 2 was great but I wanted it to be longer, and Fallout 3 and New Vegas are my favorites.

Black Isle Studios is dead, and they didn't own fallout. Interplay, the games publisher owned it, they sold it to Bethesda.

Fallout 2 was the best one... F3 isn't very good without mods, way too easy, but with them (FWE in particular), the game rules!

The incredible moddability of F3 is its greatest asset.

I would not like to see a Fallout 4 release because it is being made by Bethesda and Fallout 3 was crap compared to 1, 2, and New Vegas. There is no chance that the world of Fallout can ever continue the way it once had. With great story, memorable atmosphere and characters, and a world worth exploring will be shattered by Bethesda's grasp on how an RPG actually works. I miss Black Isle, they made the game a true vision of what it would have been like to be in a post-apocalyptic landscape of the retro-future world. All that will be spat on by Bethesda.
