Arrakis... Dune... wasteland of the Empire, and the most valuable planet in the universe. Because it is here — and only here — where spice is found. The spice. Without it there is no commerce in the Empire, there is no civilization. Arrakis... Dune... home of the spice, greatest of treasure in the universe. And he who controls it, controls our destiny.

apparently the movie is not cancelled adter all. but if they don't start production before spring, they will lose the right to adapt it.

the director is unknown, it's neither Peter Borg nor Pierre Morel (who replaced him but later quit as well).

sometimes, the other projects like tv series differ a bit in the time line from books and original story. and some are just based on and include famous characters.

I loved the Dune miniseries, but i liked children of dune series a bit less watched them ages ago on net since i don't have sci fi channel lol. I thought it was decent and had cool special effects some good cast to, I also watched the Messiah part as well but i can't remember if that was the prequel they did sewn into the children of dune series.

If you watch it read the book, it's cool and the book explains lot's more detail :)

i have read Children of Dune at least 4 times dude ;)
that's why i'm interested in this series in the first place.
as for Dune series, i think i watched it on vhs, it was compressed to a 3 hours long movie.

i recall that Leto II died at the end of it while Chani survived, which was very weird.

Didn't Ghanima live as well?

Blaze_K Jul 31 2010 replied:

yeah, i think she survived as well. either that or she wasn't present in first tv series at all. (another weird thing)

Leto II was apparently killed during some kind of attack.
he obviously had to reappear in children of dune, so i dunno how they explained that.

or maybe the movie edition that i saw had a different ending than what has been aired on tv? dunno.

Genghis91 Jul 31 2010 replied:

Yeah probably different versions, well the ending i saw Leto II went off into the desert and Ghanima is left to rule, she says at the end something similar to the ending book phrase that Leto II was always the stronger one and so he had to endure the agony. If there is many variations then perhaps they did alternative endings or something :D

no no no. i meant that he died in the adaptation of -Dune-, not in the adaptation of -Children of Dune-. he was still a baby at that time.
or maybe i mixed it up, and it wasn't leto who died after all...

I think it's easy to get confused in the series, but it's still a good watch and i think i will be watching it again sometime with my dad or something :D
