Humanism
(this group does not support the majority of the Democratic party who are mostly corporate whores; shoving "democrat" at the front was a grammatical ploy)

A number of political adds I find to be effective or entertaining.

Took a test on which early American political party I belonged to in History class, -12 being the most Federalist/Hamiltonian, +12 the most Democratic-Republican/Jeffersonian. Ended up at -10 as a Federalist, making me the culmination of pretty much the most hated aspects of both current political parties xD

I find this election really disappointing. This time I dislike both candidates- very different from 4 years ago. I actually thought that both McCain and Obama would make excellent presidents... Shame this time is seemingly the exact opposite.

The vote's value has been reduced to a choice between insanity and stagnation, which is why I may never touch a ballot.

"A choice between insanity and stagnation".

NAILED IT. That statement sums it perfectly.

Hello! I'm from Canada, but I think I have a fair bit of knowledge about US politics, and Harper hasn't been perfect... So I joined this group.

Well, its worse than I thought. Obama has openly said he's a blue dog Democrat, which means he's not a leftist, he's a conservative. No wonder he's done nothing beyond a few very minor things.

Not really surprising, if you had been paying attention you would have seen he was a Blue Dog at least for his first term as President, a fact ignored by the right that is convinced that its way is the only way and if you think differently you are a communist XD, I Personally am Far to the left of President Obama, i believe in Nationalized Healthcare, that we can afford to defund the military and reroute that money to better causes such as education and the VA which have been suffering. I also want a government that can't be pushed around by the corporations, and those are just the moderate elements of my ideals

It's not so much a shock, more of a reason to lose all hope he will ever do anything to push the country forward. He must be one of the biggest disappointments in recent history for anyone actually paying attention to politics.

Welcome to the club :D

Every argument I can vaguely recall having with a libertarian has descended into an argument for anarcho-capitalism. Which I would call a childish reaction by people who essentially think the government is Satan.

Though I can't necessarily assume what it is you believe.

I believe in everyone's right to do what they want, as long as it doesn't bring harm unwillingly to anyone.

Also, I came to the conclusion that a perfect society would be one, where all humans are equal in their dependence of others. Either no one is dependent on anyone, or all are dependent or others at the same level. Current society just doesn't cut it, as all communities always have someone who is less dependent than others are, thus allowing him/her to assert control and be above others. But I do acknowledge that we are unable at the moment to create a society in the form of the idea above, since equality is lacked on many other departments in the world as well.

But I am not forcing you to think that there should be a society where no one is a lamb. Allowing opinions is a part of being a libertarian.

I wouldn't expect anything less than total individual freedom, on a meaningful level its not exactly non-existent besides the occasional stupid law. Drugs, age of consent, ect.

Perfection in its self is a fictitious word if used literally. Its no better an idea than one of an Anarchist who thinks people will magically all think each other equals and respect one another if government was abolished, idiots like Adam Kokesh for example.

Humanity is not perfect, but its not particularly flawed either, we are natural creatures no less than wolves are. We're primates, to expect a sort of uniformity as some Communists may expect in a community to immediately arise out of the malaise set in by capitalism would be silly.

Society functions off culture, or vice versa. There is no ultimate one, societies do not gain experience over time and level their culture up as though its a game. Humanity and organisms in general happen to gain complexity and thusly a greater chance of survival.

If the Third Reich had a system economic or otherwise far superior to its competitors it may have survived to this day. But it didn't, it was a violent global organism which endlessly consumed territory, and cannibalized specific parts of its own populace. Naturally this threatened the survival of other nations so they came down on Germany united like a dump truck full of bricks.

I can wish a Communist society were so easy to achieve, but it won't make it any more practical as a standard for now. 'Everything is either Communist or not good enough,' no it's silly to think that.

These ideals need not be thrown out but there must be stepping stones to reach anything near this ideal. Without objectively or pragmatically looking at what's around you it doesn't matter what you think or do, you'll only bog down progress rather than supplement it, whatever it is you call progress.
