Something like this may have an appearence in one of my Generals Mods.

I can teach you how to do a Tier Set Upgrade for your mods which changes layouts of barracks/war factory/air field if you want me to.

So the colour around each character represents the tech level?

Errrrm.
Let me explain something.

The Red is Default Options, the Yellow is the Saboteur that i re-added into my mod, the green is the new tec level.

I'll explain some more in the description.

so basically what you did was change the outline colour of the unit and then add a tech requirement for that unit?

so (as an example) for Jarmen kell he requires a palace so you change his outline to green so when you build a palace you can build him?

coding is always smoke an mirrors, something that appears high tech always is really simple.

That might be optional for modders who wish to add something like this into their mods. This option allows any army which has this to upgrade their structures to build tier 1 2 and also 3 once an upgrade which gains access to them units is purchased.

Lets say like when you start a skirmish combat mission as GLA, you have for example Rebel, RPG Trooper and Terrorist as Tier 1.

Once you purchase Barracks Heightened Clearance it unlocks Tier 2 Units like Angry Mobs and Hijackers.

Same Applies to Tier 3 once you purchase a Barracks Maximum Clearence it unlocks Saboteurs and Jarman Kell.

Anyway the smoke in the barracks, my games copy was set to low because of lag or something else which is making my copy of the game running slow.

You do know that the button borders are there to indicate what type of button it is, right?
Blue=Unit/Structure/Drone
Green=Ability
Brown=Upgrade/Buy Generals Power
Yellow=System Command (e.g. Stop or Combat Drop)
Does btw not count for whatever idiocity EA did on the Bomb Truck.

Description

I done some coding experiments for one of my mods, basing it on the Red Alert 3 upgrade system. Long time ago, i had an idea on bringing a tier upgrade system to generals. I modified the code of the GLA's Worker Command Set Changer and did some experimenting. After sometime, this is the result, I tested this on the GLA's Barracks, allowing the GLA to have additional options of infantry to recruit to their army.

Tested on 07/08/2009

PS:
I didn't steal this from EA, i was inspired to do this for one of my modifications for Generals Zero Hour.

If you wanna know how to do this let me know.

As requested, i will explain about the colour around the icons.

Red = Default Options (Toxin Rebel, RPG Trooper, Terrorist, Angry Mob and Jarman Kell)
Yellow = Re-added (Saboteur)
Green = Tier 2 (The New Options, Depending on the Tier Upgrade)
