then I said C&C3 is one of the most beautiful RTS engines there is.

OMG! That is a HUGE difference!
When I got C&C3 in April 2007, I had to play for 3.5 years with these graphics!
In November 2010, with the new computer I can play with graphics in the other picture :D
You found your redemtion then?
yes you are both right. Often the better the graphics a game has, the worse it looks on low end computers. Though on a good computer... Yummy! :D

Really, this is a very interesting look as to having advanced shaders + lighting + particle FX can do for the look.
The unit models look to essentially have the same poly count (a notable exception is the lack of an infantry unit on the GDI barracks). The unit/structure textures seem to be the same resolution, just less sharp.
The terrian is another issue, as it's missing many prop model geometries, as well as texture resolution.
Alot of small pipes, power lines, and other props are also removed when the model detail is this low and units just drive right throu each other instead of driving around.
