Commencing in about 1 hour, all ModDB servers will be upgraded because we have quite simply outgrown our current host and require more space, more power, more speed and better upgradability. Whilst this uptime is expected to take a few hours behind the scenes, we expect there to be only a few 10 minute patches of downtime to you on the frontend.
If however you see anything wierd occuring during or after the upgrade, please contact support or post a comment here and we shall investigate.
* UPDATE 1: VIDEO/AUDIO PROCESSING IS BACK ONLINE
* UPDATE 2: The ModDB fileserver is also down for the next 24hours, Filefront is still available. 2 new ModDB fileservers will be available from Saturday.
* UPDATE 3: IMAGE DISPLAY ISSUE RESOLVED

The bitrate of encoded video on ModDB has been increased by 32k and audio by 16k - which should marginally improve the playback quality of NEW video files uploaded (old files will not be re-rendered). We plan on continually upping the bitrate until we hit HD quality. Also bigger news is the launch of a new media player which you can see below. I think you'll agree the new player is sexier - best of all we now support proper streaming so you can seek to different parts of the video (you have already buffered) without the "loading delay" the old player suffered. Check it out:

One of the features sorely missed from v3 ModDB (i'm told at least) was the ability to browse the image galleries from all mods at once. Apparently eye candy is important to some people and so many used this "gallery feature" to find mods based purely on how they looked. So if you are one of the shallow cool people who judge a book by its cover you're in luck. Why? Because a new feature has just been deployed to ModDB which (you'll see linked too in the top menu ^^) which allows you to browse all videos, images and audio at once.
Not only that, but we have improved the feature from ModDB v3 days considerably. Firstly you will notice up top ModDB editors have picked out a selection of cool videos, images and audio to feature. We will continue to do this, upload an awesome piece of media to your mod or games profile and we'll feature it for you. Secondly you can now search all media so you can quickly and easily find the video you want. And finally, media from active (not private) games, mods, engines and groups (not just mods) is now browseable.
Enjoy the new feature - it should hopefully help you the developers find more fans as media on the web (thanks to the likes of Youtube) is now more important than it ever has been.
UPDATE: Please note that due to demand our video / audio server is currently been upgraded and new videos will not be rendered for 24hours.

Since ModDB's v4 launch in November 2007, the site has been quietly collecting daily statistics such as the number of profile visitors, downloads, videos and news reads you serve to our community. Until now these statistics have been hidden, so there was no way to answer questions like:
Now, thanks to the new statistics system - you can view all of this information and much much more. In fact you can view games, mods, groups, engines and even your own personal statistics. Accessing these statistics is simple, on download, video and profile pages you will generally find text like Views: 10 (2 today) - look on right right menu here to see this. All you need to do is click this link to view the corresponding daily statistics. An example of what the stats look like for the HL2 Jailbreak mod is shown below:
These statistics update daily. Also like I have done above (just like a youtube video), you can embed this graph on your mods homepage, blog and other sites so you can track your contents popularity without even visiting ModDB (or you can show it to your friends and brag - your choice).
