Calling ISP's and Filehosts
41 comments by INtense! on Mar 29th, 2009 digg this super bookmark With Filefront to close tomorrow - a huge void has formed leaving many indie developers and modders without a place to host and serve their files to the millions of gamers that want them. The development teams are doing amazing work and deserve to have their content spread far and wide and we aim to help them with this endeavour by making our download system better than it already is... with your help. If you work at an ISP or a file download site, we would love to talk to you. Here is what we are after:
In return, we can offer:
Please contact us to discuss any of this. We are open to all offers (free or otherwise). Thanks for supporting the ModDB!
Video / Audio Streams back online
4 comments by Greg on Mar 21st, 2009 digg this super bookmark After the changes were implemented during the roll out of the new job board, the videos system dropped offline due to a bug with the code that handles our CDN/Mirror selector. We have now implemented a fix to resolve this coding issue, and videos/audio should be streaming/playing once again from our US, European and Australian CDN's. Thanks for your patience!
Jobs / Help Wanted is back!
43 comments by INtense! on Mar 20th, 2009 digg this super bookmark Mod DB now has over 320,000 registered members and each day we reach over 80,000 people, some gamers, some professional developers and others working towards a job in the games industry. Despite the mass of talent on our site, there has always been a big gap in our offering and that is connecting companies with new employees and mod and indie teams with volunteers looking for experience. Countless times game companies have approached us looking for individuals skilled with the big engines (ie. Source, UE, Cryengine and SAGE) and they do so because YOU have the knowledge and experience they seek. Today marks one of the biggest steps forward for Mod DB in our history, today we hope to begin bridging the gap between commercial game companies and indie / mod teams, by offering a number of new features:
We hope we can provide everyone a place to promote jobs and to find the job they are looking for from companies right through to the new teams. The job board is high tech, with live searching and tons of other features - so we highly encourage you to give it a shot. Read on for more information about how we can help you, hire the best.
ModDB Server Update
9 comments by Greg on Feb 7th, 2009 digg this super bookmark Since our new server platform came live over the last week, we have been working to further optimise download and streaming speeds - and also work to improve stability and reliability of the new system. If you have been having any problems since the start of February, please let us know! Further changes/fixes yet to come - Update: We have had to disable the moddb mirrors for the time being - they will be re-activated in about 24 hours.
Server Upgrades Complete
15 comments by Greg on Feb 1st, 2009 digg this super bookmark The upgrades mentioned on the previous news entry have now been completed. We thank everyone for their patience as there were a few hiccups with slow media (audio/video) rendering times during the upgrades. We now have 2Gbps of CDN bandwidth in the US, 300Mbps in the EU, and 10Mbps in Australia, with more to come soon! Please let us know of any feedback you have on the new hardware so we can work on any issues you spot, or let us know how the video streaming speed is (if you had issues before). Please also note that the ModDB download mirrors will be reactivated within 24-48hrs. UPDATE #1: Download mirrors are up, media is back, everything should be 100% operational and FAST!
