As promised here is Mod DB v3.1. What has changed? Well there are tons of little fixes / enhancements applied all over the place. The most notable is however the new *mellow* color theme. We will also be making a dark theme available in the next few weeks, for those that like to live life on the edge!

The most exciting enhancement is however the *beta* mod forums which are been trialed on hammy-bob mod. Yup, you heard right - the Mod DB will soon be offering Mod Forums to ALL mod teams. In the mean time head over here to check out the beta - Moddb.com

Apologies to everyone dying to play mods over Christmas / New Years... the downtime won't happen again! So spread the word, post news on your mods site, let people know we are ready for a stampede of visitors to make up for the drought over the past few days.

As a thank you gift for waiting, a few VERY COOL features / fixes will be unveiled over the course of this week.

Report abuse Mod DB v3 Launch

It has been our dirty little secret for a while now, but for those unaware Mod DB v3 will be launched this Saturday the 3rd of December at 10pm PST.

So... what has changed?
Whilst v2 has grown phenomenally over the past year, we do occasionally receive an email with suggestions for improvement. Over the past few months we collated all these emails, identified features we want to see and have made them so. Here is a few of the more notable changes:

  • New site theme (sleek, gameified, red on black layout)
  • Much more organized site layout with the site essentially broken into four: areas
    • Browse - mods, galleries, downloads
    • Read - news, features, awards
    • Develop - tutorials, help wanted, getting started
    • Discuss - forums, comments, polls
  • Tabbed profiles with MUCH MUCH more details
  • Enhanced search across all areas of the site

Is there going to be a paaaartaaay? The site will be going down for 1 to 2 hours during the deployment.. so what better time is there to throw an IRC shindig / chat / speculate / flame. Join in on the action by following these simple steps

  • Get an IRC Client running (mIRC is a good option)
  • Connect to irc.gamesurge.net and the channel #moddb by clicking here
  • Thats it, your done, v!

Teasers...
Here are a few shots to wet your appetite as well as a promotional poster. Stay tuned, there is much much more to come!!

Report abuse New ModDB Feature: Game Filtering

25 comments by INtense! on Jul 24th, 2005 digg this super bookmark

One feature which has been requested again and again, is the ability to filter this site, so you can only see information about mods you want to see.

Well we have listened to you, and hence the latest feature (still in testing) which allows you to choose the games that interest you. So if you love Half-life and Doom 3, but couldn't care less about the other hundred games on this site, choose them and they shall be hidden!

This feature is available to all members right now! If your not a member, sign up and start filtering!

Note. The entire site isn't filtered so you will still occasionally see mods from other games when browsing the Mod Database. Also this feature will cause some of the statistics to appear incorrect when really they are not, so please keep this in mind when using the filter.

Report abuse Mod DB @ Freeplay 2005

UPDATED WITH DAY 3 & 4 PICS! CHECK IT OUT!

Well Free Play 2005 is over for this year. I have uploaded a few extra pics and will be uploading videos pretty soon and there will also be a nice writeup of the event and things that went on!

Firstly lets introduce Free Play.

Freeplay wrote:Free Play caters for independent and DIY game developers, creatively frustrated professionals, game development students, creative gamers, modders and game artists. Developed by the indie game community for the indie game community, Free Play provides the only forum for Australian independent game developers to share knowledge, showcase their work and initiate new projects. The conference also caters to those creative makers who are increasingly adopting game development technologies and techniques
into their art practice.

So with the introduction done a few members of the Mod Database team are now in Melbourne, Australia and at this event. No point me writing any more, for a candid look into an event much smaller (but cooler) than e3, click this space! We shall update this feature daily and also share a mod promo video which showcases tons of great mods once this is done!
