Report article New EU download mirrors are live!

Back on the 20th of October we announced 5 new EU download mirrors - they are now live!

Posted by Greg on Nov 5th, 2009 digg this super bookmark

Thats about all I have to add - but hopefully EU users should notice significantly better download speeds and access to the latest files should be available on EU mirrors aswell as US ones! We are continuing to tweak our system to make sure that downloads are available on mirrors as soon as possible!

Please let us know your feedback - ModDB now has 5 US mirrors, 7 EU mirrors and 1 in AU.

Hmmmm, also, can images be bigger? Like 4MB for mod/important images, and 2MB for profile pics? It would make showing full size of maps easier.

Within the downloads description you are free to add images as you see fit, the best option is to add the image to your gallery and use the embed tool provided to add it to the download, then people will be linked to your gallery page.

Personally I feel the download system shouldn't be used for "images"

I'll consider upping the limits imposed

Thanks Henley, I just need image limits in galleries upped. :-)

Yup, the download system isn't and shouldn't be. ;-) I just suggested that the image (media, i.e. videos, etc.) limits should be upped a bit... especially if there are more mirros for regular downloads (not separate pics). ;-)

Hmmm... to clear up the idea, here's an example:
Moddb.com

A beautiful map Intoxication, AFAIK, made by Aro (the leader of the mod).

However, the pic in the galleries is a preview/smaller version. Below the full version (approx. 12MB, 3948x1812)
Ti.ppmsite.com

After changing it into a 100% quality JPG file, it still has about 7MB.
It would be superb to have HD image galleries, or just galleries for big pics, so the example shown above would fit in. Well, dunno how it should like exactly, but these HD galleries could be separated from the main/smaller/regular ones.

Great suggestion. It's often frustrating not being able to see the full detailing of an image.

This change isn't really making anything any faster, just more mirrors to choose from ;)

Congrats on the new mirrors ModDB.That should make a lot of people much happier (not to mention the latent effect of increased accessibility).
