To preface, I am not talking about spam bots who are trying to push products, scams and crap. If you ever see a comment, forum post or receive a PM from someone like this, please send us their username and we will erase all traces of them from the site. ModDB is a 100% spam free zone, and will always remain that way.
What I am referring to, is members spamming one another and their blog posts, which I am assuming they do to raise their "karma / activity points". To combat this, all members found responsbile are being banned (a few already), their comments erased and their karma / points reset to zero. If you are seen posting spam ANYWHERE on the site, this will happen to you too. Members, please report those you feel are spamming, so we can deal with them appropriately.
Secondly, because of these members immature actions, the karma / points system has been updated to only issue points on a unique basis. Spamming comments over and over as has been occurring will no longer help raise your level, it will only help you get banned. Same applies to forum posts, blog posts, news posts and everything else on the site.
The aim of ModDB, is to provide a community for game developers and players to share their thoughts and opinions with one another. Spam and nonsense ruins it for the majority who are here to better their skills and games, so please respect the rules and stick to insightful, meaningful discussion.
It has been brought to my attention that members are also spamming karma and continually down voting certain members / mods they dislike. That too is just as bad and will be dealt with appropiately. I will be investigating a few reports of this to ensure this practice stops as well.

The business of Modding and all that surrounds it seems to never end, and the staff of ModDB has been working diligently for the past 5 months, this will continue to be the case for many months to come with both the Mod of the Year 2009 and Desura kicking it into high gear. As a result we have not had much time to come up with anything appropriate to celebrate the time of year where giving gifts is at its highest point, so sorry no epic mod lists or staff selections for your chrissy holiday this year but we did want to give you all our season greetings.

Thats about all I have to add - but hopefully EU users should notice significantly better download speeds and access to the latest files should be available on EU mirrors aswell as US ones! We are continuing to tweak our system to make sure that downloads are available on mirrors as soon as possible!
Please let us know your feedback - ModDB now has 5 US mirrors, 7 EU mirrors and 1 in AU.

At the moment the purpose served by groups on ModDB is twofold. The first being there use as fan / hobby groups whereby say you wish to create a musicians group, 3d artists group or game fan / bashing club you can do so, and you can invite members to join and share their work. The second being there use as game / mod development groups whereby if you have a team of individuals developing or publishing a game or mod, you invite them to join the group linked with the game or mod project. This way the groups members control the linked content, and they are listed as developers.
As of today these groups are officially split into two separate listings. All of the groups developing and publishing games and mods have been moved to the company page, and all of the fan groups and general groups remain on the groups page. We hope this move helps ease a lot of confusion people have had in the past with the groups system. Having said this we know the majority of mod development teams are not "companies" however we felt this was still the best name for development and publishing groups as you will be listed alongside folks like Valve, Epic, Blizzard etc.
In addition to this, groups will now show a blog, while development / publishing companies will list the game and mods they are working on, which we feel is a much better way of presenting the relevant information. We hope you enjoy this rather large enhancement, and if you have any questions / concerns please do not hesitate to post a comment.
Finally, we have attempted to move all development and publishing groups to the company page, if your group has (or hasn't) been moved and we made a mistake, please let us know and we will move it to the correct section. We also encourage you to update your links to point to the new correct urls and to link to ModDB as we appreciate the support! Enjoy.

Thats right, more download mirrors are being added!
With 5 current US mirrors, 1 AU mirror, and soon to be 5 EU mirrors, modDB is going to have plenty of capacity for your holiday season modding requirements!
Keep watching this space for updates - at the current time of writing we expect them to start serving files on / around the 5th of November.
