This is a group for those who have broken their mental chains of religion, as well as those who have never been bound by them in the first place. There being no way to prove the existence of a deities, nor any other superstition. Anything anyone says about any superstitious notion is a guess and your guess is as good as mine.

Lol, now I know some christains cite Richard Dawkins refusal to debate with Ray Comfort as 'proof' that scientists aren't as confident with evolution as they seem. But thats not really the case, you see, creationists like Comfort don't actually have any credentials so Dawkins knows that the debate would largely be spent on simply trying to teach Ray basic concepts and debunking strawmen, which is made more difficult by Ray's unwillingness to learn thanks to a false belief that he knows everything. Ray would likely just use the debate as a platform for evangelism, by putting on a show he can trick the simple-minded into thinking he is 'winning'. For proof of these tactics, look up Ray Comfort and the rational response squad or thunderf00t.

If there's anyone that treats atheists badly, it's their own families (if they are religious zealots like mine were). Not to mention, if you're non-religious or worse, atheist...good luck becoming president of the U.S.

Other than that there may be an occasion religious zealot harassing one or what not, but I don't think people are gonna get murdered over it.

I estimate we'll have an irreligious president in the next 40 years, if it even takes that long. A short while ago we still had segregation in the U.S., and now we have a black president; and with the rising numbers of atheists even in this backwards country, I think that in the coming decades it'll be harder to be elected as a religious person rather than as an atheist/agnostic. I just hope the matter of religious beliefs, or lack thereof, is eventually left out of politics entirely.

I am not as sure as you are it will be that easy.
religion is a rabid beast and the more it is forced into a coner, the more vicsious and aggressive it gets.
as the saying goes- old gods die hard.

Oh yes, the extremists will remain extremists, or become even greater extremists. But the moderates won't join them methinks- they'll end up irreligious, or maybe deist. One day, true religion will be little more than the practice of a radical minority.
