This is a group for those who have broken their mental chains of religion, as well as those who have never been bound by them in the first place. As there being no way to prove the existence of deities, nor anything of superstition. Anything anyone says about any such superstitious notion is a guess and your guess is as good as mine.

what if our universe was a giant metaphorical baloon? and the big bang did not occur from a giant atom but instead the entire universe compressed until it began to expand again?

like the core of the big bang was nothing but a paper cup in the deepest recesses of the ocean but when it surfaced again it began to rapidly expand as if it were an explosion?

then the cycle continues?

The big crunch theory is similar to that, where the universe explodes, then expands, then compresses again into an infinitely dense point, then explodes again and the cycle goes on.

Hey, christmas bas been so overcommercialized that it really isnt aligned with any set of beliefs. If its supposedly the birthday of jesus, than why does everyone else get gifts and shove him in a corner?

Just had a disturbing thought. George Carlin is gone, as is Christopher Hitchens, and Richard Dawkins is 71. Other than Dawkins, there really aren't any major antitheists left... Is it possible that when Dawkins dies, the irreligious will be left without a clear figurehead or popularizer? I worry that without a representative as strong as Dawkins or Hitchens, the previous gains atheism has made in the U.S. could be lost.

I doubt that, we have other atheists like Aron Ra, Thunderf00t and Matt from The Atheist Experience to fill their seat as figurehead.

As important as they are, they lack potency. However as many of people they may have given that final push out of theology, the fact remains, we live in the age of information.

Mr.Walrus Dec 26 2012, 12:25am replied:

I don't think that largely internet-based individuals will be able to fill the spot of the likes of Dawkins or Hitchens, writing books and travelling about to debate atheists publicly. Not that they aren't just as important, but I think that people like Dawkins serve as a natural figurehead; and that without them, the cause may crumble.
