This is a group for those who have broken their mental chains of religion, as well as those who have never been bound by them in the first place. There being no way to prove the existence of deities, nor anything of superstition, anything anyone says about any such superstitious notion is a guess and your guess is as good as mine.

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

What's the difference between an otaku who watches lolicon [in Japan] and a Muslim man [Saudi Arabia] who wed preteen girls?

The otaku is doing something immoral (while what the Muslim did is totally ok).

But seriously, the religious people who are most against porn are most likely doing things that even most perverts find distastful...

religion has always seen peodophilia and rape as moral behavior.

the difference is if you are part of the religion it is ok, and if not its not

either way i think its sick- child porn and child sex is harmful to the children involved.

though you have stumbled across an interesting parellel.
both groups (the japanese and the monotheisic religions) have a rather sexually supressed cultures (the japanese less so)
this could be a reason why sa larger number of people in both groups seem to have some rather perverse tastes

Depends what religion you're talking about Cervi. Christianity is against those things. This Catholic scandal has only ever been restricted to the Catholic church and is devoid elsewhere in Christianity. The first written laws on the age of consent came from a Christian country (the UK back in 1275) and evolved from there on.

Not all religions see things like that. People just use their religions sometimes as an excuse to do those things.

The real issue is their questionable morality and how religion doesn't seem to fix people's morals very well. It seems that threatening someone with eternal torture doesn't work on everybody.

So going to the doc is a sin now? This really shows how far can religion go, and God should be ashamed of himself for letting that happen to that girl or any other person that suffered from the same problem.

That guy makes a very good point about respect. My personal take on this subject is simple: I respect other people, but I have the right to criticize their ideas, especially if they're threatening someone else's rights like in this case.

Then it's up to theists' maturity to realize that I'm not offending them.

I personally respect other people for doing what they want and making their own choices as an individual. However, that doesn't alleviate them from criticisms. Especially when my criticisms are supposed to actually help them.

Nobody should take offense when someone offers them constructive criticism, even about their beliefs.

Cousin: "the martyrs are a verified, historical proof of Jesus' existence because all those people just couldn't have died without a good reason. Are you saying that they were stupid?" *gets angry*

...as if every death has a meaning, and people always die for the right things. The martyrs are a proof of Christianity's existence, not an actual proof of Jesus' existence which automatically makes the Gospels true and accurate. He (my cousin, who's 39) fails at logic so miserably.
