Question: Why all these attacks on Christianity instead of Islam? Look at what Islam represents and what their very book says its okay to do. Mohammed said it was required of them to pillage and murder and rape and forcefully convert. These are things they still do now to this day. We of Biblical faiths do not do these things (except for those just using them for their own ends instead of being legit). You claim there is no war against Biblical religions yet all the actions on this page say otherwise. If you feel you must attack religion then why not the one and only religion that demands the deaths of anyone who refuses to convert to Islam and kills anyone who tries to leave also.

A side note: Creationists are "omni-present" since every religion has their own illogical, dumb and uneducated folks. So we are not bashing christians alone on that, we are bashing those who believe in this unsupported idea of never considering to be wrong in the believe that your god(s) made everything out of nothing, even himself.

As someone who is reading the Quran (9 surahs so far) and is kind of converting to Islam (I'll move to Islam group from here in the near future), I feel like I need to say something:

When did the Quran ever tell to do so? There is no force conversion in Islam, people are free to choose it. Why else would there be significant minorities of other faiths in muslim countries, while the Christians in Europe wiped out the other faiths in one or two centuries? Islam does not teach to carry out an offensive against non-believers either, but it teaches to fight back when attacked. Those who offer and show peace are to be shown peace in return.

As of apostates and such, they indeed would not be seen in a good light (Since when were traitors seen in good light anyway? I know this is a matter of religion and not state, but still.) but it's not my place to sentence them to a punishment. The real punishment to sinners that don't repent comes on the judgement day at the hands of God.

It only makes you look stupid if you pick up single verses from the book out of context, as it only leads to misinterpretation.

So what does Quran suggest to do when confronting people who try to attack Islam? Simply turn away from them and ignore them until they change subject. That's what I am going to go by.

I agree with Medusa_Zenovka, yes the Quoran has some actual good ideas in it but they still worship the same imaginary god christains do
just because you like some of the ideas of a religion doesnt make it anymore true
I like the force, think the jedi are pretty neat- but it still imaginary and i will never be a jedi :-(.
all evidence points to all religions to being nothing more than fairy tales, and science has shown that religion can even be both physically and pyscholgically unhealthly.

and finally any doctrine now matter how bad will always have alittle good in it, even the things Hitler taught had some good (not much) but some, so even religious texts are bound to have alittle good as well.
remember religion feeda off your emotions just like a drug they offer nothing but good feelings and hollow delusions.

All wrong.

(8 ways religion impacts health/religious people more happier)

(Church-goers live longer)

Anymore lies you want to spread?

Good for you. It's good to see an atheist converting to belief in God. Although, I'll have to correct you on the whole "Islam never forcefully converted anyone" thing because it did - just like The Church did in the past. Even now, the Middle East suffers from extremist Islamic groups but most of the Muslims you meet over in the west seem to be sane and kind people just like the awesome sexy Christians.

Sadly some atheists look at the pasts of religions and dismiss them because of the actions of a few. In summary, the bad things done in the name of religion are normally done because these people are evil anyway. Just look at half The Popes in history who were all gold-lovers and lustful. They used religion to their benefit just like politicians use politics to their benefit. Doesn't make these systems evil though.

No, the thing is, is that religion teaches you not question things, not ask things, not research things, be good just because you fear punishment and death, rely on faith instead of evidence and proof, in other words, do and believe things mindlessly just because you were educated that way, how can we progress like this? This is why, at least in my opinion, religion is bad.

"Imagine, sang John Lennon, a world with no religion. Imagine no suicide bombers, no 9/11, no 7/7, no Crusades, no witch-hunts, no Gunpowder Plot, no Kashmir dispute, no Indo/Pakistan partition, no Israel/Palestine wars, no Serb/Croat/Muslim massacres, no Northern Ireland 'troubles'. Imagine no Taliban blowing up ancient statues, lashing women for showing an inch of skin, or publicly beheading blasphemers and apostates. Imagine no persecutions of the Jews - no Jews to persecute indeed, for without religion they would long ago have intermarried with the surrounding populations."

Religion and health arguments are two-edged-swords. It can work well in both ways and depends on the case. For example the indoctrination for children by the fear through hell is bad for the childrens health, while the belief in sickness might give you mental strengh to conquer it due to positive brain activities such as elation. But as I said, it depends on the case and even more on the person.

Converting to islam and following some good rules of their quran are 2 different things.

Also the islamic god is not more real then the christian ones is, since they are technically the same - both are abrahamic gods as well - and according to my ethic teachers the Bible and the Quran share more than 70% in common. To put it crudely, read the Bible and you read them all (all abrahamic religions at least).

Besides, I dont dislike the Quran. I cannot judge their book at all because I never read it. I just dont like most of those people I met for reason I pointed out already (scroll down a bit).

Verses please and no cherry-picking because I can do that with the Qur'an and the God Delusion. Hell, I can even cherry-pick from the Origins of Species to make it look like Darwin calls upon God to make evolution true.

Let me guess. You're going to cherry-pick Luke 19:27? Anyone reading the chapter would see it's part of a parable...

Or are you going to cherry-pick a few verses out of context from the Old Testament unaware that the Qur'an teaches the same stories and features the same prophets?

Because most of us are former christians and most barely had something to do with. At least I guess. Well, I have to admit if you attack an othodox moslems faith, the reaction is much different as you attack a christian. Most christians I encountered were ****** and basically said "**** OFF!", if they dont went for a debate instead. But most moslems I met got loud and some even violent. You can see in arabic nations that if we as more "christian" nations in euope dram something about their prophet, they really get ****** and even kill out of rage. Most moslems I met were douches, as well as most christians. There are good guys of course like in all societies, but its hard not to generalize.

Also, we handled the islam time and time again and if we are "attacking" religion in general, like we supposed to do through the latest pic, we also attack islam and judaism as well. To me, all religions should at least back down to the private sector: out of school, out of government and out of law in general. I think even Jesus adviced that, if Im correct.

Hey guys, is there a part in the New Testament of the Bible that says 'no' to homosexual relations? I don't believe there is and I was told that there isn't.

The reason why I'm asking is because my family believes homosexuality is wrong because the Bible says it's wrong, yet also say they don't have to follow the laws and customs of the Old Testament anymore. Right now they're in the process of brainwashing my little sister with their skewed view of Christianity and I just would love to show them how wrong and ****** up this makes them for doing so.

I'm sensing a massive contradiction in their beliefs.

I searched a little bit around the internet and found this:

Leviticus 18:22:

"Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable."

Leviticus 20:13:

"If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

1 Timothy 1:9-10

"Knowing and understanding this: that the Law is not enacted for the righteous (the upright and just, who are in right standing with God), but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinful, for the irreverent and profane, for those who strike and beat and [even] murder fathers and strike and beat and [even] murder mothers, for manslayers,[For] impure and immoral persons, those who abuse themselves with men, kidnapers, liars, perjurers--and whatever else is opposed to wholesome teaching and sound doctrine"

Jude 1:7

"In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."

Hope this helps :)

Yeah...those are common Bible thumper quotes used against homosexuality, but from what I understand, they're all from the OT and thus, the law should no longer apply (according to one verse said by Jesus himself, although he also said the opposite in another verse...).

RighteousFighter Feb 15 2013, 2:55am replied:

One thing to note is that "sexual relations" here doesn't necessarily mean that homosexual partnership is immoral. It could refer only to sexual intercourse between men. Since the main type of sexual intercourse between men is anal sex, and the bible probably forbids anal sex in any case, it pretty much ends there, unless they did take oral sex in account.

I don't see why should love between men be forbidden. One can get things out of love without penetrating their partner in the bed.

Velancious Feb 15 2013, 3:22pm replied:

But there isn't anything in the Bible specifically stating anything against the practice of anal sex. If sex between men is disallowed, but homosexuality is...isn't that not fair to them?

Then there's also the question of: So anal sex between male and female is allowed? But between men it's not? Why is that?

RighteousFighter Feb 17 2013, 12:38pm replied:

Hmm, I'm not sure if it does so. I haven't read the bible to be honest.

But wouldn't it make sense to disallow it for everyone? Your ***** can create new life. So why put it somewhere that can only spit out excrement? Why disgrace your life creating device?

I wonder as well if these books even take oral sex into account. Might they not consider it as sex?

Well, that's the thing. I wanna show my parents if I get the chance that they're just another little sect of Christianity that picks and chooses from the Bible. In the OT, I remember it says men who sleep with other men should be killed.

Yet, you see these Bible thumpers running around preaching hate against gays who say, "Oh, we are not bound by the old laws anymore! That was a different time!" Now, I'm entirely against following many of the ****** up rules in the Bible, but this is something I can definitely call them out for.
