(buried)

A lot of he people that did the taking we inconsistent with the bible. They considered themselves "better" then others and they also thought that it was their right to wipe out those with weaker tech. Inconsitent with the fact that all human life was given by God and taking it or harming another human is not right. Anyways I'll shut up now, and sorry for posting correcting notes on a picture here and there. Final point: Not everyone that came to america wanted to take over land.

The Protestants and the Catholics left for different reasons but ultimately ended up ******* with and even killing off thousands if not, millions of Native Americans. They left even more of them homeless and without food as they also killed off their food supplies to near extinction (aka the buffalo). Why did they do this? It wasn't "just" because they thought they were better than them.

Over time, this idea of "Manifest Destiny" got started up; it was a religious movement with the Protestants that made them want to move west and secure all of the land from "sea to shining sea". To do this, they had to 'remove' the Native Americans. One of the ways they did this was giving them blankets with small pox on it (one of the first examples of biological warfare that's been recorded in history).

This idea, whether it came from the Bible or not, was reinforced by the thinking that "God wanted them to take this land". They used their faith to back up their slaughter and inhumane dealings with these people and there's many articles you can look up on this stuff yourself.

But it was still Inconsitent with the bible. What happened to love your neighbor as yourself? By the way neighbor = every single human being that is alive. I think we can all agree that the events that happened during the taking of America were plainly evil.

just ask my ancestors- it didnt matter were they went of what they did.
even if they converted to christainity even if they learned english and wore european cloths and even if they acted european they still lost everything.
christainity allowed that, it was preached from the pulput as gods will.
dont try and cover it up.
it wasnt inconistent with the bible at that time, they just looked to the bible for answers and the bible told them it was ok to kill babies steal land, rape women and covet the wealth of the americas.
its all in there you just have to look.
I know i have read the bible many times and have seen the exact passages that allowed for all the horrors and darkness of western civilization and none of the good.

For the millionth time, just because some old fogie on a pulpit is being a stinker doesn't mean that what he says is God's will. It just means he's absolutely convinced that everything he does is right.

People will try to find whatever excuse they can to become the dominant power, and sad to say, many people found ways to do that with religions. Christianity just became another cover for their actions, something to hide behind. The problem was that by using their so-called faith to abuse the rights of others, they abandoned the core principles of Christianity. Amazingly, even after completely disregarding the main values of the Christian faith, they still had the nerve to call themselves Christians!

Long story short: Their mouths said they were Christians, but their hands and feet said otherwise.

It's not the people's fault for being brought up having a literal interpretation of the Bible grounded into their heads.

Even if the Bible is not taken literally, we are still left with the question, "What the **** does it all mean...?" and "How do any of these sick bronze age stories have anything to do with morality or life?"

I'm just gonna go with the far more likely answer in that it's made up by delusional bronze age people.

Yes the core principles of chritsianinity
"Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." psalm 137:9

They don't need to abandon the "core princibles" of christainity to do evil, i anything they are following it correctly.
The bible says that raping virgins because you conquered there city and enslaving children is good, and that genocide in the name of expsansion is good.
Its the Bible thats the problem, not the people.
Next time you read you bible think about that.

Deer_Hunter, you took the verse way out of context. You should have read the passage before that.

"O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, happy the one who repays you as you have served us! Happy the one who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock!"
- Psalm 137: 8-9

God was not telling Israel to smash the heads of their infants against rocks. God was pronouncing judgment upon Babylon for its great sin in showing no mercy when it destroyed Jerusalem and led the Jews captive. God was stating that Babylon would be dealt in the same manner that she treated Israel, that the day would come when an enemy would rejoice in its triumph over Babylon, and would be happy in the slaughter. It was the Medes and Persians who conquered Babylon. The once great Babylonian empire was completely overtaken and ruined by these kingdoms. Just as Babylon rejoiced in destroying Jerusalem and Israel, God said her conquerors would rejoice in destroying her, including her innocent infants. God was not ordering such barbaric behavior; rather, he was warning mankind about the consequences of violence.

For your sake, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and not assume you were quote-mining.

"The bible says that raping virgins because you conquered there city and enslaving children is good, and that genocide in the name of expsansion is good."

Would you care to show me those verses? Perhaps I can explain them to you.

ready the whole part about the taking of the land of the land that became israel- i dont have time to right the entire story down.
but heres a summary.
God tells the israelies to kill everyone in the land (execpt for young virgins which they are to rape)
and some other young people which they are to enslave- except for in afew towns were they are to murder every living thing.
of course the bible is full of examples of this stuff.
as I have told someone else recently- the bible encourages evil, it demands it. so if you want to follow it properly you either have to condon the evil acts (which you by trying to defend them are) or you must commit evil acts.
its no wonder we have so much violence in this world- its because the good christains are following the word of there holy book.
because of this I believe just as the greek, norse and aztec myths before it, we should just let it die- let it go were it belongs myth and history.

^^ I like how the Christians here always condemn any negative thing done in the name of Christianity but never say which version is the true version.

the problem is the true version is the one with all the killing and rape and infaticide.

the bible says so, god endorses it.
If i were a christain still i could do WHATEVER evil things i want and get away with it- as a humanist and an atheist I feel morally and ethically obliged not to, now i can say i truely care about human beings not just fear the wrath of a really messed up god.
its no wonder most of the United States prisoners are christain- there just doing what there book tells them to.
If i remeber right there is at least one passage in the bible about god making some guy eat his own kids, mabye we atheists arent the baby eaters after all- mabye its the christains...

I honestly don't have time right now to respond to the propositions you sent me in the video, so I'll just have to use links. Because this subject deals directly with the validity of the Bible, you can't go screaming that Christian sites are "unreliable sources".

1) On the subject of rape: Blackandgoldjack.hubpages.com

2) Who hardened Pharaoh's heart? Apologeticspress.org

3) What about gathering twigs?
Christianthinktank.com

4) I gave Deer_Hunter an explanation of why the Mosaic Law ordered the killing of homosexuals, and he even admitted that it was a logical argument. If any of you have questions about that, I can send you the PM thread.

5) David's Census: Studylight.org

6) Was the Flood justified?: Read the chapter yourself, there are many things that the video maker missed. I can show them to you if you really want to, but I'm a wee bit short on time right now.

7) Death to children for the sins of their fathers. If you look closely, you'll notice something very interesting: God isn't the one saying that! It's the words of a prophet on a very bad hair day. Also, he's describing the future, not the past or the present. He was very sarcastically describing what was going to happen to the Babylonian empire. Sure enough, the Medes and Persians turned the place into a dump some time later.

8) The Amalekite Atrocity. Christiancadre.org

9) Does the Bible condone cannibalism? Rationalchristianity.net

Tektonics.org
