Description

The forgotten brother of Shilka.

After the end of World War II in the Soviet Union was engaged in serious efforts to provide its troops with mobile anti air cover. The most famous results of these efforts was the legendary ZSU-23-4 "Shilka", but not many people know that she had a brother, the ZSU-37-2 "Yenisei".

Weighting 28 tones, it was based on the chassis of the experimental SU-100P self-propelled gun. "Yenisei" was armed with a twin-37 mm 500P Angara anti-aircraft autocannon that had a range of 4500 meters and a firing rate of 1048 rounds per minutes. In standard shooting mode the gun fired a barrage of 150 rounds, then take a break of 30 seconds to cool down its barrels and repeating the cycle until it runs out of ammunition. The 1A11 "Baikal" 1RL34 radar system is used for targeting could engage targets at altitude of 3000 meters. It had a maximum speed of 60 km / h and could travel at 20-25 km / h whole firing at air targets.

While overall in impressive system. It was untimely rejected in favor of the "Shilka" which was lighter, simper, quicker and coasted a hundred thousand rubles less then the "Yenisei" to produce.
