Its been over two years, and lift is closing its doors. Another mod bites the dust!

Posted by on

It been what over two years right?

Team Lift , is no longer producing a game as of today. Over the past few months we as a team have decided that its time to move on.

As anyone that has followed this mod knows, we have had a lot of trouble getting a full team up and running. The coder chair in our office has some sort of curse on it. We are all tired of waiting, so we decided to do something else. While we are dropping the idea of making a game, we are picking up a new Eureka Seven based project.

Some where along the way I acquired a team of people with the talents to make a 3D animated movie. Sound, animation, modeling, editing, effects, the list goes on. So we have decided to stop waiting and start a project that we can finish on our own. We will not waste all the work we did over the years. We will use it to make a short film based off of Eureka Seven.
(*Naturally all assets will be released to the public after completion)

I have to apologize from the bottom of my heart. There have been so many wonderful people supporting Lift for the past few years. We have had many ups and downs, yet you guys stayed with us till the end. To everyone that signed up on the forums to drop us a line or post some good ideas. To my team, who are now close friends, for not being able to deliver on my promises. It truly is hard to bring something like this to an end. It was fun, but we need to move on.

Some more direct thanks:
Whitfeild (was our first coder worked hard, but had to leave for work)
Gundy ( was our second coder, did a lot but had to leave for work)
Kezeali ( worked hard and stayed with us for a long time)

Techerizer (extremely helpful in the concept department)
Feather ( long time fan and made us our most recent website)
Xrain (active forum member who helped us work out our control scheme)
Entrz ( texture artist, and made a website for us)
Luciouse (lol remember that guy he ripped other peoples music?)

Thanks to 5AM, Cerebrate, and Doug. They have all pretty much been there from the beginning and are still here. thanks to Genjo for his two year long map. Thanks to Torchling for his character modeling. Thanks to Danny and Mikey for help with the web space and on occasion modeling. Thanks to Jewel for concept and wallpaper design.
Im sorry if I forgot anyone, there's been a lot of people connected to this project over the years.
Some team members had some things to say:

From Doug:

"yo guess we r done making interactive eureka 7 art game peace"

shout-outs to: myself, plinkotink, cerebrate, g3njo, 5am, torchling, other people that may be on the modteam that i dont know about, jesus, satan, weezer, the strokes, my parents, siblings, friends and foes, whites, black, yellows, the red man, everyone who is alive, everyone who is dead, santa clause, george bush, barack obama, dick cheney, tony blair, clint eastwood, rivers cuomo, julian casablancas, jack white, meg white, john doe, jane doe, jimmy doe and myself again

look for doug's gundam mod, coming to crysis in 2010 as soon as i finder coders and animators."

From Cerebrate:

"Dear people of the internet:

I'm rather sorry it had to come to this, but it really is all plinkotink's fault. Somehow. Something having to do with keeping a coder on the team. Though not really. Shame on you lazy-ass coders (only the lazy ones. Not the rest).

Now while you're waiting for our movie thingamajig, you should all go play smashball, cause it's awesome. And cause I animated things in it."

We had a lot of fun, and we technically could continue to work on Lift mod. We have decided to do something else because it would benefit us more. We all want to show off our particular skills, and making a short movie would do just that.
Our forums will continue to be in use, however our ModDB will not.

Well, that's it. I guess we will be moving on now. While it didn't turn out the way I thought it would, I can assure you all that im very glad I decided to start this. I wouldn't take it back for the world

Sorry to hear that, especially since I am a programmer. The problem isn't that I don't want to help, but just that I can't invest energy to learn C++ and use it in practical ways, with .Net out there providing everything routine I need. If there will be a source rewrite in .Net, i'll contact you ;)

*Yosemite Sam style cursing*

Why do all the anime mods either die or get C&D?!??! WHYYYYYYYYY!!??!

on a more positive note I think it is really cool you guys are going to make a movie. Maybe they will let you guys stick around and even put the movie up on moddb! It would be a first!

Makoto Shinkai got his start doing game work and he is my favorite animator. I wish you guys the absolute best of luck and hope to hear about you in the anime circles! Don't forget about us in mecha fans, I am sure everyone there looks forward to your feature!

It's sad to see you guys go but you should at least leave your source or something in case another team may want to pick this up.

At least release the content for a real team to pick up. I supported you, but now I just think you're kinda psycho. You're going to make a 3D animated film based off a 2D animated film and series? Really?

Bad Doug!

That being said, it's understandable that the Lift Team is neither open to people criticizing their years of hard work and coder difficulties, nor thrilled about the idea of allowing anyone to rip off their models/designs and claim them as their own.

Man I never replied to this comment!? I must agree with Doug on this one, you call us not a real team and then you call us psycho? We are as real as a team gets. And its very understandable for a group of 3D artists to want to make a short film with the work they have done over the years. I can only assume that you didnt think before you spoke on this one.

... Wow... As I said in my very first post about this mod... I wanted to believe in you guys... but I guess its too late...? I even had the trouble of downloading the steam version of HL2-DM. Nice... Very nice... I sure hope you guys pick this up in the upcoming years or so... Because frankly, this mod IS worth it... So, my advice is... after that little movie you guys are doing... use it as a benefit for the mod itself. Letting it die after you have showed us what you guys can do is pretty much your suicide. Do you think these guys are going to keep trusting and/or believing in your words if you guys let the mod die and not pick it back up in the later years?

I'm going to keep this tracked. I hope that you guys leave a news post when you guys decide to pick this up again... as I don't have an account in your forum, I think.

I know very well that some of these guys are ****** at you and your team to put the mod "on background", as I like to call it, and I also know that some of them are eagerly waiting for you guys to resume the mod, even if it means after the movie. I find it unbelievable that after modeling and animating everything for the movie that none of you, bad or great at coding, can't find a way of splitting the overall coding work between the rest of the members. Seriously, that's just so not... versatile.

I will say it again... I seriously hope that you guys resume modding after the movie or some time after that... Its a golden chance to dedicate everything into coding after you guys have the models made for the movie... and their respective animations.
