american cartoons ... are **** though X_X.
They're for kids! Sure they have subtle jokes in them for adults, but the plots always stay non serious :c
In earlier times this was different - Disney himself said that "You are fools if you think animation is only for kids!" Look at the movies where Donald Duck fights Nazis or the Vietcong.
Exactly. Early American cartoons were made in such a way that it had appeal for both older and younger crowds.
Even if you look at older Disney movies they had enough hidden meaning, foreshadowing, and other plot devices that kept older audiences entertained where the younger audience remained delightfully oblivious to staying completely entertained by the pretty colors and sounds. However, it's gotten much weaker as time goes by.
Also their traditional "musical" bits seem to have disappeared for the most part. To be honest, these were mini masterpieces within the movies themselves. I would bet that quite a few of you have hummed musical bits to Disney movies or maybe have re watched clips of it.
Just the other day I was thinking about re watching mulan or hercules.
Ahh cartoons brings back memories...
