I mean if you pay attention pretty much all Japanese anime reveals signs of American influence here and there within Japanese culture.
I know that American culture is not as extensively influenced by external countries, but we definitely are.
Honestly, I like it ... to be able to absorb influences into a culture like that without having significant resistance suggests that humanity as a whole is maturing. We are more open to new ideas and cultures. We aren't vilifying them anymore.
It may seem small that we are able to appreciate forms of entertainment from other countries, but an analogy would be like meeting a person for the first time and being introduced to one of his/her favorite thing and as a result you learn to like it too. It can help form a bond.
the problem is, they were adapted not really good.
basically it's like rebooted titles that become movies lately. Sometimes they changed the characters personalities/appearances/etc much, if compared to the classic series, which disappoint the old fans.
Call me a pesimist, but i think it's a shallow fascination rather than anything mature.
It happened few times in history already, for example in late XIX century lots of europian artists were fascinated by japanese art. but they mostly just copied artistic means, without trying to understand the culture or whatever.
What i see now is the same: people getting kewl tattoos with kanji, using japanese honorifics, drawing in what they call "manga style" and declaring their creepy love for anything japanese.
And in Japan it's the same. people there buy t-shirts with english text just because it makes them look cool even if text doesn't make any sense. Lots of girls tan their skin and use various tricks to look more western. they put english words into songs sung in japanese to make them sound cooler.
Of course it all does help the process of integration to some extent but imo japan is still heavily alienated from the rest of the world.
awww f*ck!
after Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men... now BLADE???
It has become very obvious that cultures are merging
Stan Lee and that dude from the Ultimate Shaman are doing a collab
I thought it was always obvious.
