True. But most the time the censor violence.
Honestly I don't understand the point of censoring stuff like that in the first place. The whole point of these things is for those bits to show! It really confuses me, especially since most of the time it seems like it's on their own discretion and they didn't really have to do it.
(I'm not specifically talking about porn. I'm talking about pretty much anything that would be censored.)
You should blame the Americans for this, yes i said it because it's true. Before Matthew C. Perry came to Japan, sex, naked human for and other stuff like that were considered to be something natural and no one in japan was ashamed of it.
Then when the Americans came, they told Japan that stuff like that was innapropiate and disgusting and that if they want to be more "western" they should either ban it or restrict it as much as possible.
Now almost 150 years later, you can see the result...and no this is not ******** this is the truth, research a bit if you don't believe me.
while censoring sounds dumb, it is still required because not all aspect in something is acceptable for everyone. well, mostly it is because of suggestive materials and political correctness. there's also rating system in conjunction with this to filter inappropriate contents. but they all were made mainly for viewers convenience.
although sometimes the one who did the censor indeed went overboard. something that don't really need to be censored went filtered as well. flat-chested Misty, invisible guns, etc. (I'm looking at you 4Kids!)
Yeah but just because "some" people can't stand nudity, violence or something like that, be it because of religion or something else, they shouldn't ruin it for the rest of us "normal" people. If they don't like something, don't freaking watch it, it's as easy as that.
the problem is, they had to watch them. everything that shown in your TV are still controlled by your government. the censorship committee are paid by the government, so they had to do their job. thus it's up to them to censor what deemed inappropriate. of course protests might come afterwards, but nothing much that we can do about this.
but well, if you don't like to see the filtered version you always can search the unedited version over the internet. :P
even in the japanese anime, when you find the TV version have have been censored, usually the DVD/blu-ray versions had them removed. so I think this issue shouldn't be a problem.
