Set in a post-apocalyptic world where the vast majority of the world is uninhabitable due to a substance known as Seithr, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is the story of two orphanaged brothers – Ragna and Jin – whose destinies take a turn for the bizarre when one day, while they were still kids, Jin was handed the Ars Magus ice blade Yukianesa. Ars Magus are magic weapons that consume Seithr, and often impact the psychological state of its user.

A seemingly possessed Jin then cuts off Ragna’s arm using Yukianesa, and leaves his for dead while the mysterious man who handed Jin Yukianesa takes him and the brothers’ younger sister Saya away.

Years later, Jin is now an elite military officer at the Novus Orbis Librarium (NOL) world government, after being adopted into the noble Kisaragi family due to his remarkable skill with Ars Magus.

Ragna, on the other hand, is labeled a class SS criminal responsible for single-handedly destroying entire branches of the NOL government. Nicknamed the “Grim Reaper”, Ragna fights with his gauntlet-shaped Ars Magus (doubling as an artificial arm), the Azure Grimoire.

The brothers re-unite when Jin makes his way to the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi, after hearing about Ragna’s intentions to destroy NOL’s offices there.

A few additional details on the anime adaptation of Arc System Works’s 2D fighting game franchise BlazBlue has come out of Arc Fes 2013 today. The series is officially entitled ‘BlazBlue Alter Memory’ and it will air on TV in the Autumn 2013 anime season
