What to consider when downloading a Game App

By far, the game on top of my favorites list since last year is Plants vs. Zombies. A perfect concept of plants protecting your home against brain munching zombies blended with amazing UI and graphics proved to be a great way to spend time, and definitely something outside the box compared to tradition racing and fighting adventure games. But it is not every day that you come across such attractive games. Even though there are numerous game apps available in the app store, they can still seem monotonous and boring. So what makes you download one particular game? What makes you decide? Surely, one cannot decide the credibility of the game just by the looks of its app logo. Judging a book by its cover, eh?

Okay, let’s outline the key things that you should consider while downloading a game app:

  1. What genre are you in to?

Games all over the store are divided into sections or categories called genres. These genres, just like music or movies foretell want the game is about, is it a family game, or does it have a horror element etc. It doesn’t really matter for you to choose a particular genre but it does help you find exactly what you are looking for. Example, Need for Speed and Asphalt 8 fans will find their calling under the Racing genre.

  1. Memory and System Requirements

Generally, games with attractive user interface and heavy graphics need quite a lot of free RAM in order to run, something around 1 GB. So in order to have a smooth gaming experience make sure to check the game specification section in the app store that highlights how much memory do you need to download the game, or how much RAM it needs to run without freezing on your phone or tablet. Also, some games require a certain version of your operating system. Example, even though Apple has released iOS9 but only few games run exclusively on it. The rest are still compatible with iOS8 and some even with iOS5. It really depends on the date and version of the particular game.

  1. Multi-player or single-player

You can ask yourself whether you would like a game where your friends could also share the same gaming experience in real time. Multiplayer games can allow you to play a level or a race for instance, with either your own friends or other players around the world. I personally believe that multiplayer games greatly enhance your experience and also provides a more realistic gaming setting comparatively. Otherwise, you can always opt for single user games if you are not much of a multiplayer person. Minecraft is one of the most popular multiplayer games of all time.

  1. User Interface and Experience

Other than the main concept of the game, the thing that keeps the customer attracted is what he sees once he opens and plays the game. The buttons, features, side bars, user options etc. Basically everything that builds the game and shows on top is what makes the player decide whether he wants to ever play it again or even recommend it to anyone else. Other than the interface, the wholesome experience of the app such as the time it takes to load up, or how quick are the settings changed etc. No matter what the game is about, nobody would enjoy a slow or something that isn’t pleasing to the eye.

  1. In-app Social Networking

If you are looking for a game that allows interactions between other players from around the world then you should watch out for the in app social networking feature within the games you download. These kinds of games are not necessary multiplayer, but do allow you to talk to other players on the app. A great example is AirG’s Big Barn World where they claim to prove a ‘social farming’ experience for all its players. You can visit each other’s farms and look at what others are doing, however, you’re not necessarily playing together like a traditional multiplayer game. There is a chat feature within the app as well as an email option, so you can easily form a network with the other players, no matter where they are from.

  1. User Reviews

What better way to consider a game than to ask the people who have actually played or are playing it. Once you have made your own personal decision through the determinants mentioned above, you can head over to review forum and read what the other players are saying about the game you want to download. However, keep in mind that not everyone has the same phone or operating system, so something that does not run properly on their device doesn’t mean that you would also go through the same situation.
