Canon, what is it? Yes it is a type of artillery fixture however it has another meaning. “To understand canon and continuity, the overall Star Wars saga should be looked at as a set of stories written by many different people which "document\" past "events." Although some stories are more reliable than others, they all are looked upon as part of the overall "history." It should also be remembered that all of these stories are simply that—stories. There are numerous errors that inevitably arise between the stories simply because different authors have their own ways of telling the story and may not have the time and resources to perfectly align the details.”- Wookieepedia. Different types of canon are present. In Star Wars canon, the highest level of canon is the 6 films made by George Lucas, the next level of cannon includes Tv Series such as the 2 Clone Wars series one made by Dave Filloni and the other by Genndy Tartakovsky. Last but not least, the next level of canon is the Novels and Comics written and published by various authors and companies.
In Tolkien's franchise, the concept of Canon is a little more complex, for the subject is still being debated. Naturally, the highest canon material is works published by J. R. R. Tolkien and his son, Christopher Tolkien. “I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama .” - J.R.R Tolkien. From 2001 to 2003, film maker, Peter Jackson released 3 films depicting his interpretation of The Lord Of the Rings trilogy. Certain events that Jackson cut out or re-wrote in his interpretation sparked controversy amongst some fans of the series. The biggest issue was that in Jackson's interpretation of The Return Of The King in 2003, depicted the Shire a happy and un-touched place after the destruction of the one ring. In Tolkien's book, when Frodo returns from destroying the ring, the Shire is in ruins, industrialized, and secretly under the control of Saruman. Despite the differences, Jackson's films are loved and enjoyed and will continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
The goal of this group, The Alliance To Restore Canon, is to compile and discuss contradictions with canon in various sci-fi and fantasy franchises. Not to criticize the franchises but to simply make note of the contradictions and ask “how does this contradict? Why does this contradict? Is it an accident or on purpose? Is it directly from the franchise or one of the many independent authors?”. So again, we are not criticizing the franchises, just wondering why these contradictions exist and why have they not been fixed. Something as simple as deeming it uncanon can fix a contradiction. Like the 2008 Clone Wars series for example, George Lucas has not yet officially declared the series canon and whether or whether not the series will re-write existing canon entirely or simply add to the time- line that had been established before 2008.
At the moment, the Alliance To Restore Canon is mostly made up of star wars fans, but we are open to other sci-fi and fantasy series so if you have found contradictions in other franchises and feel as if your not being heard, don't be afraid to join. All are welcome and all are treated with respect.

The last development update i will write before version 1.0 of the Star Wars: Clone Wars Submod is eleased
All we had to worry about before was continuity but there is a far greater darkness gaining strength.
Calling all ARC members! If you've joined ARC then you probably did it because you love expanded universe, so why not join the Expanded Universe fan group?...
Here's my opinion of the Clone wars in a news article because it is going to be longer than a standard comment (please do not delete)
so, the question on every ARC members mind right now is "Now what?"
I truly don't know, TCW is done, we can all now rejoice in the fact that everything they haven't touched is safe. but the damage is done, an ENTIRE ERA of star wars history is now ruined beyond repair. Since the series was canceled before it was finished there is a minuscule chance that they could reticon some of it's content but i wouldn't get your hopes up. as far as i know the damage is done, which saddens me, however we can now sleep soundly at night knowing that they cant do any more harm to what was once one of the most epic eras in Star Wars history, filled with tragedy, despair and Gruesome bloody battles. now turned into a bunch of cheesy one liners from a padawan that should not have had Anakin as a master, battles where every outcome is a republic victory, and back stories for every character tainted and ruined, not to mention the unnecessary resurrection of a LONG DEAD character.
So TCW is done but at what cost? so much destruction was it necessary? was there something wrong with the previously established timeline? the answer is No, it wasn't necessary for another show about the clone wars era to be made and there was nothing wrong with the previously established timeline that's why i organized this group, to convey that message. You shouldn't fix what isn't broken
maybe you should add "in my opinion" to your statement.
I will again point out that the show, like the movies is centered around Anakin Skywalker. The choosen one who wins battles against impossible odds. However the show does feature REPUBLIC loses at Ryloth, Quell, and several others.
Wheather it was necessary or not is also irrelevant. George Lucas had stated years before that he wanted to do something in the clone wars era and the other story creators were warned that he may still do something which will conflict there stories, novels, comics, etc.
The show was done because George Lucas wanted his story told and not the story of other writers. It was not done out of necessity, obviously.
Sorry but your message is misleading
way to ruin my speach.
and on the contrary, i am misleading no one
there was nothing wrong with the old timeline, the clone wa did not need another show, what DID need a show was the Jedi Purge, probably one of the least covered eras in the star wars timeline. yes there was a video game and a few comics but thats it really
unless George Lucas writes or directly oversees the writing of, its uncovered. Now I do not know how involved he was in previous works but just because it was a popular era for writers to cover does not mean it was GL covered.
That doesn't mean I agree with his choices in the storyline but its his creation and he wanted to cover it his way. The wording of your statement sounds like it wasn't necessary so he shouldn't have done it but necessesity was irrelevant in his reasoning. Sorry Karen Travis but your not GL, sorry Dark Horse but your not GL.
you just cant let me have a moment can you lol
AND the republic DID win at ryloth. yes they took losses but a phyyric victory (for those not in formed, it means a victory in which the victor takes horrific losses) is still a victory so STAHP trying to convince me otherwise. as for quell, could you really consider that a battle? it was just Savage Oppress storming the temple to earn dooku's trust. and what "several others" do you speak of? in all the four seasons ive watched, never have i seen a republic defeat. "how can we win every battle but still be loosing the war" - obi-wan (i cant remember which episode)
If you are gonna debate you should have your facts straight. The first battle of Ryloth was lost. The entire Republic defense fleet was destroyed and the whole Garrison led by Master Di was killed.
The Sky Battle of Quell was lost when all three Venators led by Secura onboard Liberty were destroyed.
but since you insist I will list the rest of the republic loses.
The battle against Malevolence in the Abregaedo system was a loss. Plo Koons whole fleet was lost with almost All hands.
The attempted capture of Grievious at his castle was a loss with only Kit Fisto escaping the planet alive unable to beat Grievious
Techinically the hostage crisis in the senate was a loss although not a battle. Bane escapes with his ransom (zero)
The BATTLE of Deveron, which was the one involving Savage was still a republic Loss and they did loss the planet and the Jedi temple there.
The First Battle of Felucia which seen in Holocron Heist was a loss when the forces led by Anakin, Obi Wan and Ahsoka were overrun. All heavy equipment was lost.
Battle in the Arda system, Eath Koths fleet destroyed and Eath Koth captured
The beginning of an episode shows a Rep Medical station over Felucia destroyed by a seperatist fleet.
Kenobi's fleet including the Negotiator was destroyed in a skirmish with General Grievious' fleet
and Adi Galia's fleet is destroyed when attacked by a seperatist fleet.
Pyrrhic* victory
Yeah the massacre is now stoped *_*
its a win win situation really. the TCW fans get their beloved show to be indoctrinated into the timeline and screw everything up, and we finally got what we wanted which was the show being stopped before it could ruin anything else
