This group is open to everyone who likes any kind of aircraft
On the 20th of June in 1965, two MiG17 of the NVAF tried to jump a flight of A-1 Skyraiders assisting with a Search & Rescue Operation, one MiG17 was shot down by the A-1s.
Another MiG17 was shot down by an A-1 a year later on the 9th of October in 1966.
The aircraft was praised by many for it's ability to loitering over the battlefield for hours at a time. They were heavily armed; napalm/bombs, rockets, & 20mm cannons; once they expended one weapon they would continue strafing with the others.
As part of a system the A-1s would provide long-term presence & support, while jet powered aircraft provided quick immediate support.
The skyraider looks pretty cool, but it's a ground attack aircraft. The mig is a fighter.
Yet this event happened in real life.

It's funny because it's like a stuka shooting down a p-51. Then again, weapons designed to destroy tanks would be even more brutal against aircraft.
There probably isn't a single aircraft that could survive even a brief burst of the A-10's main weapon.
That would be a brutal way to go indeed especially if the Stuka was modified for tank busting ( Helmo.gr )
An A-10 engaging enemy aircraft with its Gun, now that would be a sight to see.
yeah.. i could see an A-10 ripping apart a MiG right now with its GAU-8.. or maybe, the US could equip the A-10 with AA missiles, but then again that would be stupid because the A-10 is a bit slow for air to air combat.
and those A-1s look nice. i've never heard of these before. or i'd seen one before i probably didn't recognize it.
Interesting piece of information A-10s are armed with AIM-9 Sidewinder AAMs for self defense.
Faster plane has the slower plane at his six cause it is slower, if the pilot do something wrong is dead, this things happen in WW2
Wasn't the skyrider a refuel plane?
Does it look like one?
haha the name implies something else too... Skyraider - along with its alphabetical code designation...
i wonder when the US air force will do that...
