I found that some people prefer Age of Empires 1 and Age of Empires 2 more than Age of Empires 3. I never played them before but can someone explain why the old ones are better than the new one?
i can only advise you to try them out. if you don't find out why they are great then its simply too late for you.
or watch the prologue/tutorial like video Youtube.com apart from the awesome cheat units and the superb map editor like never again, there is everything shown in it that makes the older AOE titles great.
Disclaimer: I don hate games just because they're old, I like a bunch of old games.
They are well-balanced, and well, they have their ambiance. That specific, original feel. Multiplayer matches last long though.
Age of Empires Online sucks. Believe me,i expected much better stuff from Microsoft.It doesn't bring to some better stuff,just combines:

i cant even play online. my copy is the type that people get free with computers. i think it considers it to be hacked :(
Everyone should check out out 0 A.D. Its a open-source game based on AoE and is growing into a really epic game.
