Here's Valve's Steam Box!
Cooperating with the Xi3 mini-PC for use on TV
PC maker Xi3 unveiled a new machine codenamed Piston, developed in collaboration with Valve.
PC gaming on TV
Piston is an upgradeable mini-PC developed in partnership with Valve, writes website Polygon. The plan is for it to be used with the TV in the living room, and Steam is naturally integrated in the console, when the Big Picture Mode is designed to be used on TV screens.
The machine is still under development, so specifications and other information about the insides are not made public yet. Polygon Demo Unit has looked at the CES trade show features eight USB ports, four eSATAp ports, two Mini DisplayPort ports, an HDMI out, optical audio out, analog audio in and out, and the network port.
But the demo unit is actually so small you can hold it in the palms.

Looks very... original:D
That's one way to say it, lol :D
Most importantly, can it do toast???
No, it do not make toast.....I think.....
How much will it cost for that Steam Box?
I think I still do not have a price
Price and availability is not announced yet.
Hopefully this thing will have better specs than the 720, my old PC had better specs and it only cost about $500 well over two years ago.
Oh how I have been waiting for this~...
I love the fact it's technically Valves version of a console, yet can be upgraded like a PC, the best of both worlds, together!
i still rather my gaming tower....
Of course, anyday, but I feel this is a step on the right direction for consoles...
The question remains, will the owners be considered console peasants or part of the PC master race; maybe mudbloods?
If Gaming is a kingdom, then
Console: Peasant
PC: Royal Family
Piston gamers: Dukes
As much as I hate consols due to them being old(even when their new their cheap old junk) and pc gaming beig sort of slower by them this might be what the gaming community needs to get rid of consols and prepare to accept the fact that pc gaming rules:) and as comradewinston said, the owners of this are sort of inbetween since this at least has some upgradability. And maybe there might be some mod support for these mini consul/computers. (They also seem portable and easy to carry so they might be useful for going to a friends house, considering that the friend has a few spare monitors;D)
Inspiration: GameCube?? ROFL
More like a toaster...
I got an Alienware X-51 hooked up to my TV.
I'm playing Far Cry 3 and Crysis 2 with maxed graphics. That's PC gaming on a TV, :P
All I can say is I hope this thing has good performance.
Ahem, this isnt the Valve console, Valve have partnered with Xi3 for this but it is not the Steambox.
In fact, from Kotaku, Piston was one of the many concept made for the project
I will personally go for a version of steambox with a disc drive. Windows is going to be installed and playing my CD games would be fun.
Why isn't it called the Piston?
