i would say for one smooth it and work on your geometry their seems to be quite a few errors on the model due to unclean geometry for such a simple model also i feel that the handle needs a lot of work in shaping it to fit reference. Having said all that its not bad and it will look quite good if u fix it up

Its a flare gun for a tp project i'm helping with, so i'm not gonna smooth it because i dont want to exceed the cap, and also, Im not too worried about the handle so much, because it's not going to be seen up close. Its also going to be in a characters hand, so it still would not matter too much to me.

if your using max there is a smoothing function that doesnt use polygons it uses what its got. if your in edit poly mode scroll way down there will be boxes with number on it press 2 and the polygons you selected will be smooth and there will be no rough edges. i hope i was of help :)

if thats the case then lower the polygon detail around the trigger and ring making it a simple flat shape and smoothing on 3ds max doesn't up the polygon.

I dont use max, so... yeah, Blender ftw. And It's 630 verticies. thats not too much imo.
