Mental Ray =]. No external plugins used, can all be done with default Max install and a few basic textures =].

well V-ray is the usual choice for the Realistic Rendering

Its a slight misconception. Mental Ray is as equally powerful as V-Ray, and a lot can be done with just Max's built-in renderers. That, and V-Ray is only compatible with 3DS Max, and a lot of stuff can be created within Maya which utilises Mental Ray too.

There's Brazil renderer and many others, and Pixar and Disney films use their own set-ups. V-Ray's widely used in architecture within 3DS Max, but thats about where it ends ^^.

Nice mental ray render.
:) Looks real, however just a small con, you should've added Tea/Coffee(Your choice) in the tea cup, then it'll be too real to believe.
Oh and glad you used a "Sunlight" light then a default omni or somthing along them lines.(Common mistake for some, even I make that mistake now and then).
