We are currently running phase 1 (the nomination stage) of the awards. During this phase every mod and indie game on the site has a small voting booth shown in its profile. For 15 days from December 20 to January 5th, you can nominate all of your favorite titles by clicking the "vote" button.

You have less than 5 hours to get your final votes in.
Then, a day later on the 6th, the top 100 mods and indie games of 2009 as voted by you, will be announced. So make your votes count, and help the development teams that entertained you this year, receive recognition in the 8th Annual Mod of the Year Awards.
I cannot wait to see the results this year! There are so many wonderful mods!!!

Unfortunately, I don't expect results so eagerly. Why? B/c AFAIK, mods for old games (and beautiful old/2D indie games) are underrated and overlooked.
Median XL did well last year and finished in the top 20 iirc.
Yup, but only Median, it seems... perhaps something else was also spotlighted, but it doesn't bode well or improve anything.

I can't wait to see the final top-100 score tomorrow. If we make it in, or even if we don't, theres still a lot of work to get done - to an extent, it doesn't matter personally to me too much if we do or don't end up in the top 100, but...
It'd still be nice, ya know? Never mind the PR boost it would give.

this is going to be the 3rd MODDB MOTY awards i have attended, and they get better every year :D
I think the downside with the polling system is that it chooses the 100 most played mods, not the 100 best. Often they go hand-in-hand, but not always.
Determining who has the "best mod" is very, very subjective. What I think is wonderful is not something you might.
Getting people to vote in this way is the only way they can do these awards objectively, whether some think its fair, or not.
If you're unhappy about your mod's placement, it should be your goal to get your mod on the front page with well written articles, updates, videos, images, etc. It's all about getting your mod out there into the eye of eager gamers. If it's a good mod, the popularity, and votes, will come.
If you believe in capitalism, the most played mods ARE the best mods because they offer value to the largest number of people.

Editor's choice is for choosing most "underplayed" mods/games.
I hope if Natural Selection 2 will be in the Incoming Game Of The Year! Black Mesa(HL2), SHIFT(HL2) and The Zeitgeist(HL2) for Incoming MOTY, And the MOTY should go to Company Of Heroes : Eastern Front! Furthurmore, Can't wait for mods in 2010. Much more great games and mods will come. Resistance & Liberation for 2010!
Let's see if the Top100 appears earlier this year. Last year there was a delay of three days and. I really don't get it why there is no buffer this year ^^
