A perfect choice, once I have one of those in my inventory I carry it everywhere with me, it might be heavy but it's invaluable and ammo is usually easy to come by, right into the Stancia levels. A real close quarter leveller and mutant disposer.
Some say the SPAS-12 is the best gun in the game, because of its medium to long-range capabilities with rifle ammo...
I think it's the Val or the LM300 (yes, I beated Stancia once with that thing) though, it's all depending on the playing style :D

Yeah...I'd like to see someone beating the game with a Makarov :D.
I also tend to hold onto a fully fitted out AK, perhaps long after it has served it's usefulness, not the best choice against the exo kitted Monolith later on in the game, just reluctant to lose it.
Yeah, I don't think AKs will work on Monolith too much :D.
