Zombie Grinder is the debut game of TwinDrills, an indie game development duo made up of Tim 'Infini' Leonard and Jordan 'Jordizzle' Chewning. It's a multi-platform (windows, mac, Linux!) (also Free!) cooperative multiplayer arcade game, reminiscent in style and gameplay of retro games like 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' and 'Super Smash TV!', but with the added benefit of some newer game mechanics - achievements, ranking, player-customization, rpg style stats and so forth. The game sports a variety of different game modes, from co-operative 'campaign' style levels, to wave maps and even the classic 'pvp' style game modes - deathmatch, capture the 'bag' and so forth. All of these mods are bristling with a variety of weapons and items, all lovingly displayed in Jordan's classic quirky pixel-art style.

When i set map start to yes and hit test, the map seems to never load, and eventually gives a error, what gives? if its set to no they just spawn at the top left most spot in the world, am i missing something?

also how do you play multiplayer custom maps, even if you have to host LAN or something, isn't there a way to do multiplayer custom maps?

Try following jordans example. It sounds like your missing encapsulation or something.

As for playing custom maps. When your happy with your map, click the tools->upload to game menu item, and press build. It will check through your map, and warn you of anything wrong, and then will upload it to the game. Your map will then be accessible publicly in the map browser, in the "Community" section.

thanks for the hosting tips, but FYI thats what im following, and why im posting, maybe something weird just happened and i can remake, but i have worked with other, actual game engines, and not just map makers, and i cant imagine why it wont work.

(3 years "training" on game design) ("training" as in working, weird stuff with laws for who i worked for only allowed so many people "working" on a team to make something, but "trainee's" didn't count, so they "trained" tons of people....IE hired them under the name of training....lol)

another semi-related question, after i upload and host and whatnot (once i get it working) can other people join? as in do they need to find and download the map file, or does it download the map data when they try to join?

also if they can, does it only download the map data? or if we use custom new things (im aware you cant mod weapons and what not, but you can add your own) because im not sure if (if they are able to join naturally) they can join maps with custom stuff, and not default editor things

(FYI for my stuff so far im not adding anything custom, but i though it's worth asking)

I haven't actually looked through that tutorial in a while, there may be things missing, I'll have a look in a sec / update anything missing.

If it still dosen't work, send me the map file over (infinitus@zombiegrinder.com) and I'll see if there is anything wrong.

Other people can join yes, it will automatically download the files for the map when the user joins.

As for custom files. When you build the map it will look through through all object/map/script's for anything referenced that is not in the default game data file, and will include them with the map package. Long strort short, if you use anything custom in the map then it should get included and distributed when you upload it.

My aim for the upload-to-game system is you can change what you want in the map, and make whatever assets you want, and can get it all in the game for everyone to play with only a single click.

Hey guys XD

I've looked through the tutorial again, and I think one of the problems might be that dawnbomb might be lacking a Map Image object. Remember, this was made before the mod support - otherwise, I can vouch that the tutorial should still work (since I followed it for my First Map). XD

Feel free to download my first map Dawnbomb - there's good reason why I've put it up (on Desura, not the map browser). Since this was made before the mod support, it DOES NOT have a Map Image object - but otherwise, this is a finished example of what you should get if you follow Jordan's tutorial.

Please take a look at the collisions and objects on third layer - those are the most important things. For the Objects, don't forget to check the Object Properties!
