The Zod Engine is an open source remake of the 1996 game Z by the Bitmap Brothers with already many improvements over the original. It is written in C++ using the SDL library for Linux / Windows / Etc.
Excellent! It even expands on the original game with new UI features and a modern host/client server model for online and LAN play. Highly recommended to any RTS fan!
Funny realtime strategy wargame
without any tactical claim.
Abit sad though obviously peoples
cant zoom close into the action.
Overall a simple capture the factories
flag styled sent these units there game.
great remake of an already great oldschool rts game
Loved Z back in the day and always wanted an up-to-date version.
Resorted to installing the original via Dosbox which isn't pretty!
This is a fully functioning version with an exceptionally good multiplayer component thrown in to the mix!
The AI is very strong, but still beatable!
the creator is continuing development it seems and is releasing regular updates and including new and improved ideas for isues and niggles that were in the original game.
I would highly recommend a look at this game as it has had a lot of effort put in and it really deserves to shine! (Plus its an awesome classic), so what's not to like!?
The biggest critiscm I can give is that the menus and level changing requires a bit of knowledge/persistence. I believe a proper ingame menu is in the works however!
