ZERØ is an RTS/RPG hybrid game set in a post-apocalyptic future, where warring gangs of survivors battle over the remnants of civilisation. You take the role of leader of such a gang, eking out a living in the barren wastes. To keep your gang alive, you'll need to scavenge for loot amid the ruins or complete missions for the inhabitants of the few remaining outposts. As you travel, you'll come across rival gangs intent on robbing you, not to mention the other wild horrors of this grim future.

This is the latest prototype build for the game ZERØ. It's a fairly substantial part of the RTS portion of what will eventually be an RTS/RPG hybrid.

SKIRMISH PROTOTYPE (ALPHA 2.00) RELEASED

Well, it's been a few months, so I figured this deserved an update. While still subject to (probably major) tweaks, the engine has been vastly improved.

  • The graphics engine has been optimized (over the mess it was before), and can now output decent framerates while looking considerably better.
  • The AI has been overhauled, and player level AI has been added - nothing spectacular, but it coordinates its units fairly well and knows when to cut and run.
  • The in-game interface has been streamlined and is no longer the cluttered mess of keyboard controls it used to be - essentially it's now just LMB for orders and RMB for camera control.
  • AND: menu system, music, improved map generator et cetera.

However, there's currently only four game modes/map types selectable, with no team selection. I'm planning a patch that should be released in a month or so, which will enable these, but until then gameplay is limited. Sorry. Stay tuned!

NUCLEAR WAR IS BORING
Planning for the far future, it's occurred to me there's only a limited amount of time I can spend procrastinating on the RTS mode. I've got ideas for the RPG mode, but no firm story. Here's where YOU come in: I need suggestions for post-apocalyptic scenarios that would more or less fit the premise of the game. In other words:

  • There must be the possibility of small communities of human survivors
  • There must be visible evidence of past civilisation (buildings, mostly)
  • Ideally there would be the potential for wandering monsters
So...if you've got any ideas, post a comment to the game's profile. Hijack my game for your own ends! It'll be fun!

Hmmm... A virus has been created that creates spores in the air infecting all who breath it causing a painfull and rather explosive death, to those unlucky souls who survive are converted into bio-matter and reenginered into deathly plant/zombies, you are lucky enough to be immune along with approximately 0.5 percent of all humans, as the lone wanderer you search for survivors while navigating the floral environments of the hideously mutated world eeking out and existance all the while atempting to find the cure to this virus.
P.S THEY ARE NOT ZOMBIES. they are smart, fast, and better equiped, AND blend in with the environmentl. their weapons range from multiple arms and claws to advanced bio-weapons.

In the far future, space travel has reached farther that light speeds. Humanity takes over other planets within their reach as they expand their grasp. Earth, is slowly abandoned by anyone with the capability to do so for the new world because it has become a dump. This slowly builds a rift between the new and old planet, the tension reaches a boiling point when the newer planet, is officially renamed new earth, and designated the new homeworld of huanity, while old earth is declared a legal dumping point for garbage and waste. Decades pass before old earth gains the ability to launch an attack on new earth, sparking a human civil war. Old earth's recources are limited, but they have more man power and a larger planet leading to wave attacks against new earth's highly trained and specialized army. In the midst of all this a new foe makes an appearance, an alien force waiting for the right moment. Planning this attack for years to find a new home for their race who lost their own to nuclear fallout in a civil war they move onto both new and old earth to tarraform the planets and take them over. This side used highly developed technology and units with special abilities to wage war, along with trained wildlife saved from their homeworld in wave tactics, their recources are limited so far from home, but they are desperate for a new place to settle.

This is Auduna, and if only I had the time I would make it, but alas my time is taken up by mapping and schooling.

Forget that, I just got the game working now and played it. That was great, you've got something great there. I recommend you keep it simple, like a squad control simulator, or a zombie game, that would be awesome.
