Xenonauts is a PC strategy game due for release in 2013. It is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games, putting the player in control of an organisation defending the world from an alien invasion. It is a grand strategy game that involves building and managing bases across the entire planet, controlling jet fighters and ground troops in battle against the alien forces, then researching captured extraterrestrial technology to unlock their secrets! Linux version uses WINE.

Xenonauts is now available on Steam Early Access, and with that has formally entered Beta. If you have pre-ordered Xenonauts at any point prior to today, you are entitled to a Steam key (and you'll also get one if you buy the game on Desura in the future too).
To claim and activate your Steam key:
1) Go to Secure.desura.com
2) Log into your Desura account
3) Click the "Request Key" button next to Xenonauts
4) Load Steam and go to Games > Activate A Product On Steam in the topbar
5) Copy the key into Steam
The above steps are also viewable in picture form here: Xenonauts.com
However, if you would rather stay with Desura, that's fine. We will continue to release new builds on Desura as we make them available on Steam, so it should just be down to personal preference for users.
Build V18 Stable should be out on Desura within the next 24 hours, and is our first Beta build. The game can be played all the way up to (but not including) the final mission and the vast majority of the game mechanics are now in place. What comes now is balancing and polishing it, improving the graphics and making all of the little changes we'll need to make to say the game is complete. However, it should still be playable and hopefully enjoyable too!
Mac and Linux versions of V18 Stable will be arriving shortly both here and on Steam too!

F*****g buy it people!
This is why I love indie games, this is what I wanted since X-Com: Terror From The Deep, as this is rightful heir of its throne.

Only in early alpha many, many bugs. You won't get to play long before you experience a crash or freeze.
Give it a year or two, then take another look.

Devs of Xenonauts (if you are out there):
First off, I love the game - this is one of about 5 games that I would seriously say are making big waves in the gaming market in general. We PC gamers are getting bored of the same old ****; this is the first single player game I've played (in recent memory) for more than 4 hours without that teletale burned out feeling setting in. I only have a few critisisms/comments regarding the way that difficulty scales up.
It seems that the overall difficulty of the game scales with unlocked research projects - I'm not sure if this is the only determining factor when the game decides to send corvettes instead of small/light scout ships, but I found myself outmatched relativly soon after I unlocked projects like the Wolf armor and the first? missle upgrade for the fighter jets. My strategy up until then was to pump money into research projects - the outcome was that I had stuff unlocked, but barly enough money to afford to purchase/manufacture said gear.
Basically what I'm getting at is that should the difficulty factor scale up based on your total 'net worth' as a player rather than as a factor of what research projects are unlocked? As a player, having Wolf armor unlocked is a very different situation than having 6 sets produced. When I loaded up my last save game, my remedy to this situation was to simply just slow down my research progress to match the amount of money I had coming in. Is there a specific playstyle you are trying to encourage here?
So this does not work on XP?
I have a XP SP3 system and the game works well. There's no problem with this OS.
Okay sweet thanks. I was wondering because it said in the minimum requirements, that Vista SP2 was the minimum.
Yes, the Desura version will continue to be updated. You can use this instead of Steam if you want.
I don't know why the standalone file is malfunctioning but there's an updated one awaiting authorisation anyway, which is a much more stable version. Best to wait for that!
ETA?
Fix the windows link!
@GoldhawkInteractive I hope you continue to suport the Desura Version even after you got on Steam.
It would be kind of bad if you cut of the people preordered here at Desura from things like Expansions, DLCs or even just updates.
Steam keys are now available if you have a Desura key. If you want to claim yours, then go to this link: Secure.desura.com
Can't seem to download it as well.
