Wind of Luck – massive multiplayer online game, in which the action takes place in the golden age of piracy in XVI-XVIII centuries. The player begins his career as captain of a small pirate vessel with a few guns in a huge world with 180 unique towns in three vast regions, covering the liveliest areas of navigation at that time - the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean Sea, Indonesia, East China and South China Sea. The game recreates the atmosphere of anarchy, when every captain was a man for himself, pirate leaders held on personal authority, the trade was an armed and fortune of every adventurer depended on his ability to cope with the ship and crew.
Sunken ships, lost islands, treasures, "black marks", privateering, caravans, bounty hunters, pirates, corrupt and honest governors, smugglers, powerful trading companies, kidnapping and ransom - all essential elements of piracy's "golden age" will accompany the player and influence the world around him.
The focal point of the Wind of Luck gameplay is a sea battle - highly maneuverable, giving the player a wide variety of different tricks and unusual actions. Each ship has its own strengths and weaknesses, and even the light brig have the opportunity to emerge victorious in the battle with the first class line ship. A special model of the ships movement let player feel the mass of the sailing vessel and, at the same time, it allows maintaining the necessary flexibility for the gameplay and the dynamics of hard fighting.
Player can capture, buy, order, build or steal ships of 90 various types and equip his ship by dozens of species of long cannons, carronades, Gatling guns, harpoon cannons, even catapults.
The economy of the game is built as an adaptive system and the market price is largely dependent on the behavior of players, which adds a sense of realism in the world. Also there is a flexible model for interaction between players and various factions, controlled by artificial intelligence (governments and commercial companies). Such adaptive behavior allows the player to feel that his actions significantly affect the environment in the world.

Hi people,
it was a pretty hard month and we are still fighting for success with Wind of Luck project.
Recently, we held a meeting with our may-be funding source, had some good promises, hard time and a complete change in marketing strategy.
After counting our resources and studying the market situation, we agreed that we will release WoL "in two steps".
First, we will finish "battle part" and release free-to-play MMO "Wind of Luck: Arena", where players can fight Team vs Team (something like 5v5, 7v7, 12v12) in several "arenas".
In 6-8 months past release of WoL: Arena, with new funding source, we plan to hire additional staff and finish main WoL project (with name of something like "WoL:Pirates").
As for WoL:Arena - Ships will be partially upgradeable, with equipment and crew, and there will be some progression from smallest boats to 1-rate ships. players will earn fame and money in each battle and spend it to research and buy new ships, cannons and equipment. I.e. in "Asian" tree there will be like 9 tiers of ships starting from Hokulea and finishing in some really huge vessels like legendary Treasure Ship of Zheng He fleet.
Yes, it means that we will need to completely rebalance ships for WoL: Arena but it seems like the only way to make the game finally live.
That's the news.

Looks like a good update.
Hi. As I can see, game will be released for Windows, Mac and Linux.
I'd like to ask: will beta-test be only for Windows or Linux too?
I have already signed-up my email for beta test, and I have booth Windows and Linux machine, so I would like to test game on different platforms =)
Hi there, thanks for subscribing for beta testing. Firstly, WoL will be released for PC Windows. Then if it successful enough among the game community, most probably we'll port it for Mac and Linux. It will take some time.
Thx for answer. I'll wait for beta testing =)
Do tell will there be boarding combat with AI's implemented? Or will that be implemented as some sort of PVP system? Also will you be able to have crew members accompany you on land quests if there are some?
Hi there,
there aren't "3D player characters" in Wind of Luck, so, no land quests. Boarding combat is a semi-automatic process, once you succesfully started boarding action, but you can interrupt with some commands (using Gatling guns, musketeers, grenadires, attack with boarding party, retreat, etc.). AI will try to boarding you if its chances are favorable, but generally avoid risk of boarding action.
Some Questions
1. just making sure, i will be able to name my ship right?
2. Storms?
3. chasing legends
4. how are you
1. yes, surely
2. weather will change, storms and thunderstorms will be, but about huge waves - no, storming sea is too heavy for MMO (net issues)
3. no comments now :)
4. working hard, trying finish beta in time :)
5. Searching for beta-testers (need 10 thousand for good testing)... please register and participate if you can -

sounds stressing, though i want to follow some sort of legend, it sounds like fun.
Yes, cannons are pulled back after each shot, and gunport lids will close and open for each shot too.
