WazHack is a procedurally-generated dungeon game. This is not a button mashfest - you can spend all the time you need contemplating your actions. With over 300 different types of items to be found, there are many different ways to deal with the more than 130 different types of monsters. You will have to use your sword or staff as much as your inventory. It's not a game of plodding to the end and winning (though it is winnable), it's about experiencing the attempt... and learning lessons that will help your next valiant attempt!

THE most awesome game! New life to the 'Rogue' type. Totally replayable again and again.

Perfect.

A goddamned beautiful rogue-like for a new generation, but one that pays respect to the old. This is Nethack with good graphics, with all the corniness thrown out, and only slightly less epic.
And it doesn't feel like playing DnD with the world's biggest prick DM like Nethack does, either.
"I put my lamp in my bag."
"Your bag burns up, destroying everything inside. You didn't say you extinguished it."
"I.. I'm going home."

Great game, I've followed it since the beta started and it's still fun every time!

One of an extreme minority of games on Desura where I feel the high reviews are justified, I only fear they may drop when non roguelikers see the higher and higher reviews and expect something from the game it is not there to provide, that said people who are looking to get into roguelikes should enjoy this thoroughly, I just wish the game had an active irc channel so i could get people to do mp compos.

Skeptical at first for having a side-scroll view as a rougelike...but as far as accessibility, a varied amount of items of various uses and effects, and general randomness that is fun and sometimes silly that doesn't go way too far, topped off with very nice visuals for this genre... I probably can't recommend another game more than this for the genre, especially anyone not familiar with roguelikes. It may be the best rougelike out there that few know about or don't give it a fair chance.
Sure, it's not as deep as other rouge-likes, but I consider this a bonus as the length time of the average game before death, or even if YOU DO ever end up winning (as of now I still have yet to), will not take over your life, too much.... As the game can be addictive, which is not really a positive if you want to have a life, but the game length will not drag on, with death probably around the corner, so you always have a good stopping point to take a break. I also like that it doesn't end up getting way too crazy with it's assortment of different items, as most are quite unique and have important uses (I'm looking at you, Dungeons of Dredmor! Had to take a break playing that one since my item collection on that game just has gotten too much to manage..).
This game is just very well made, from it's interface, visuals, and it just feels like most aspects of this game have a distinct purpose, and stuff wasn't just tacked on into the development of this game, to make it seem more than it really is, which most games nowadays fall victim to.

A solid roguelike with cutely primitive but effective graphics and a mostly for-show physics engine. It borrows heavily from NetHack, but instead of top-down is a 2-d from-the-side game. Some tropes are directly from NetHack, but the author has rebalanced the game to his liking and added his own twists.
It's essentially turn-based, with the action stopping until you choose what to do next. It can be more forgiving than NetHack, but it's still pretty hard. Don't expect to win in your first month of play.
Seriously addictive, though.
