WazHack is a procedurally-generated dungeon game. This is not a button mashfest - you can spend all the time you need contemplating your actions. With over 300 different types of items to be found, there are many different ways to deal with the more than 130 different types of monsters. You will have to use your sword or staff as much as your inventory. It's not a game of plodding to the end and winning (though it is winnable), it's about experiencing the attempt... and learning lessons that will help your next valiant attempt!

Blog RSS Feed Report abuse Latest News: WazHack 1.1 - a feast of dungeon goodness in a free update

0 comments by WazWaz on Mar 25th, 2013

After 6 months of development and an intense beta, WazHack 1.1 is now available. The new content is a free update to the 1.0 version.

Time freezes while you don't move - enemies move when you move... or perhaps you will use time to quaff a potion, zap a wand, or cast a spell. This time freezing mechanics is reminiscent of Dragon Age or even Braid, but in fact it derives from the original Rogue turn based mechanic. WazHack is a roguelike in the same tradition as NetHack or DCSS, but with a whole new 3D visual presentation like none other. You still get "turn based" action, but now a "turn" is a fraction of a second. By removing player reaction time as a concern, you're free to contemplate the vast array of possible items you have in your inventory when faced with a difficult situation, while still being free to hack and slash through a band of weakling kobolds and watch their ragdoll-physics reptilian corpses crumple to the ground.

Desura Digital Distribution

There are now over 300 different items in the game, and the new items go quite well with some of the new dungeon features. For example, you may find a small room with a closed door... before you knock on the door it might be a good idea to drop some of your gems and see if they are actually gas bombs, so you can weaken the horde of monsters as they come out of the room.

The new dungeon branch plays homage to NetHack's "Gnomish Mines". In WazHack, the mine has gnomes, but it also has a mine shaft with an elevator, and some other more deadly industrial advances await you. A pick-axe may come in handy too.

That's enough spoilers! Get playing and discover it for yourself!

I have to say that this is really an impressive graphical rogue-likish hybrid! Fun, engaging, but as all roguelikes are (or at leash should be), ruthless and punishing. =)
However, the UI is quite clumsy at times, so it could use more work. Also the game keeps crashing a lot. I hope you keep updating, this one has loads of potential!

You made a great game! I really respect what you did! My most favourite one is ADOM and I've always dreamt of seeing it in graphic performance. Best of luck to you!

After testing the demo, I have to agree that the gameplay itself is amazing, really feeling like those old rogue-like games, but then on a 2d(/3d) screen. It's... awkward.

Just as frustratingly annoying and just as hectic! A game you'll have to learn how to play...

Is this clay stop motion animation?

I like the random generated idea, but can not get over the looks.
My eyes.... They are bleeding.

The graphics are certainly basic, but some corners have to be cut to get over 100 different types of monsters. The last time I did graphics for a roguelike, they looked like this:

You may even see some resemblances...

I'd have to agree that the animations are something you'll definitely have to like if you're more the kind of guy that plays Diablo all day and night.

Now, I don't play that, I just hate everythin' that doesn't look right.

Apart from that the mechanics look smashing.

Hmm...
How do you enter the keycode?
I checked mine 1000 times, I used capitals and small letters, I entered it with and without hyphen but after entering the code in the game the OK button is still grayed out.
Help please!
Is there a possibility to copy the code in the game?

Ok it´s working now.
I am pretty sure the first code I saw had 20 digits, after a while I tried it again and my code has 25 digits now. Strange but anyhow, I can play the full version now.
