Wands: The Magic Duel VR, iOS, Android game

As well as debuting its new mobile positional tracking technology, dubbed Playground, developer Univrses is also gearing up to show off its first game to use the tech at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress next week.

The game, called Wands: The Magic Duel, utilises Univrses' Playground system to enable physical movement in a space, akin to the room-scale tracking of the HTC Vive. Previously, this hasn't been possible with mobile-based VR headsets, such as the Gear VR and Google Cardboard. In addition, Wands: The Magic Duel will utilise a second smartphone as a 3D controller, to act as the wand you hold in-game.

With this controller and movement tracking tech, Wands: The Magic Duel will offer a multiplayer wizard combat experience that will see you ducking and weaving around oncoming spells, while waving your own wand to cast fireballs in return.

That wand can be customised with various relics at a workbench, which allows you to choose which spells you arm yourself with the next time you warp into battle. Between battles, you hang out in your workshop, where you can change your outfit or practice casting spells, so you can feel competent with them before you enter combat.

Univrses originally intended to bring Wands: The Magic Duel to Kickstarter, but decided to publish directly to the Gear VR storefront. Though no release date for the full game has been set, we'll be seeing more of it on February 22 at the Mobile World Congress.
